St. Francis Xavier Parish Hall burglarized

In recent days, the YWCA and the ITVET were jacked by thieves. At the ITVET three University students were robbed in their classrooms by three thieves posing as students. And to show that few are spared, the St. Francis Xavier Parish in Corozal Town is the latest target of burglars. It was no All Fool’s Day prank as the thieves made off with cash collected as offertory from weekend services as well as electronics amounting to around twelve thousand dollars. The incident happened after the parish priests had retired for the night. Francisco Magana of the Parish says that they can’t afford security guards and so the burglars gained access through the front door with the use of a pinch bar.

“Something like eleven, everybody had gone to sleep upstairs, the religious nuh, the priests and the brothers who stay here. So we believe that after eleven-thirty to between five this morning, burglars or burglars gained access through the main front doors with the use of pinch bars and they went immediately where you have the lock and with the pinch bars they managed to break off the lock and the doors open and they gained access to the main parish office; in doing so they came in and took two laptops; one which is a Toshiba and one which is an “Assus”; and apart from that all the collection from the different villages and from the masses during this weekend, the collection offertory and as well as the petty cash from one of the drawers, they broke of that lock and they went upstairs where they took a flat screen, a tape recorder and two dvd players and they came down and we believe because the back door was open, they exited from the backdoor.”

Magana says that in recent weeks there has been a string of burglaries committed in similar fashion at primary schools in Corozal.
