Youth shoots at Police Mobile Unit

In other crime news, a city cop dodged a bullet when a robber opened fire in his direction. The suspected gunman who shot at Police Constable Homan Katanegie has been identified as twenty year old Stephan Anderson and he is some serious trouble with the law. At around seven-thirty on Monday night, Anderson was spotted on a motorcycle that was stolen from thirty-nine year old businessman, William Joseph Leiva minutes earlier. Katanegie was among a team of officers from the anti-drug unit who pursued him; the chase ended up on Mopan Street where police say Anderson took them to where he had hidden the gun used in the robbery. But instead of handing over the point thirty-eight revolver, he used it to shoot at the police officer. Acting Police Press Office Raphael Martinez told News Five that Anderson has been detained.

“On Monday, second April, 2011 a man reported to the police that whilst on Freetown Road riding his red 2011 motorcycle, he was approached by a dark complexion male, stopped him and pointed a gun at him and demanded the motorcycle. He surrendered his motorcycle to this dark complexion man and who then made good his escape. Later on that same evening at approximately seven o’clock, police saw what appears or what resembled the reported stolen cycle and they followed the person who was on this cycle. Upon pursuing this person, who was found out to be Stephen Anderson on an Ebony Street Address, he fired two shots at the police vehicle in which he damaged the radiator of the police vehicle, as well as a bullet hole in the front bumper. He has since been detained by police and investigations continue into this recent incident.”

He appeared in court this afternoon before Chief Magistrate, Ann Marie Smith where he was a read a total of six counts. Anderson was charged for the Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault of Katanegie, Robbery of Leiva, Kept Firearm without a Gun License and Kept Ammunition without a Gun License.  He was additionally charged with Damage to Property of a police Isuzu D-Max pickup. Anderson has been remanded to prison until May twenty-third when he is to return to court.
