A car so sweet, it was taken twice
An eighteen year old is going to prison for three years because of a stolen car. That decision was handed down on Wednesday afternoon by Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith in the case against Charles Requeña and Rodolfo Carrera. Requeña was charged with Handling Stolen Goods while Carrera was charged with the Theft of a 2007 Nissan Altima that was stolen from twenty-four year old Yadir Reyes on March tenth. The car was taken from in front of Reyes’ house on Sarstoon Street and on March thirty-first, Requeña was caught driving it. But Requeña explained in court, that Carrera had taken the vehicle to his yard, claiming it was his and that he wanted it repainted.
Not knowing the car was stolen, he also could not resist the Altima. He took the car for a joyride without consulting the man who stole it and that’s when the cops detained him.
In a caution statement to police, Carrera admitted to stealing the car from Reyes, who happens to be his friend. He pleaded guilty to the Theft and was sentenced to only three years since he is a first time offender. Requeña, who did not take delight in his joy ride, pleaded not guilty to handling stolen goods and was offered bail in the sum of five thousand dollars, which he met. He is due back in court on May twenty-fourth.
The law is so stupid! No wonder we have so many thieves.
