2 thieves caught breaking into residence of Justice Manuel Sosa

To show that no one is safe from crime, the house of a judge was burglarized last week. Going into the Easter holidays, thieves were caught red handed breaking into the Southern Foreshore residence of Justice Manuel Sosa, the President of the Court of Appeal.  This morning, two Belize City men were arraigned for the Burglary.  They are thirty-eight year old Christopher McKoy Jr. who was charged jointly with forty year old Kent Smith. Both men were unrepresented but pleaded not guilty to the charge. The court prosecutor objected to bail saying that the evidence against the two suspects is overwhelming and that the police investigations are ongoing.  The court was also asked to take into consideration the nature of the crime which carries a penalty of five to eight years upon conviction.  In the case of McKoy, the court prosecutor submitted that he has a pending charge of burglary for which he was out on bail.  Both men were granted bail in the sum of one thousand dollars, but the Chief Magistrate ordered that McKoy must first put down a deposit for previous unpaid fines before the court. They are both due back in court on May twenty-fifth.
