Hattieville contractor killed by a single bullet to the abdomen
As the Easter Holiday came to a close another man was gunned down and a minor narrowly escape the fatal shot. Eleno Requeña was walking about a hundred yards over the bridge in the Hattieville Community when an unidentified man approached him and fired a single shot. News Five’s Andrea Polanco spoke with the young boy who witnessed Requeña’s killing and files this report.

Thirty-two year old Eleno Requeña was gunned down with a single shot to the abdomen on Monday night. His cousin, a seven year old boy, was injured to the legs. Around nine-thirty that night Requena was walking with relatives, all minors here around mile fifteen and a half along the Western Highway in Hattieville. An eleven year old recounts the cold-blooded killing of his cousin:

“When we mi di walk on the side ah the road from the left hand underneath the berries tree by the dark area, we see wa man ina full black and then Junior say what the ‘f’ yo want and then the man just shot ahn ina ih belly. Then the shell off of the thing just ketch my bredda yah so. One yah so and one yah.”

“So Junior had yoru bredda pan his back?”

“Yes ma’am.”

“And what you do when you hear the gunshot?”
Voice of: Eyewitness
“I run dah the police station.”
“The man neva try chase yo or anything?”
Voice of: Eyewitness
“No ma’am.”
Andrea Polanco
“So when they shot Junior, he drop pan di ground? Weh happen?”
Voice of: Eyewitness
“Before I reach dah the police station, I run ina di bush gone hide. Then I come out; then I start to run again.”
The minor ran from the bridge to the police station to report the incident. By the time police got to the scene, Requena had already succumbed to his injury:

“And when you come back with the police, Junior mi done dead?”

“Yes ma’am.”

And how your baby bredda? He deh dah hospital right now?”
Voice of: Eyewitness
“Yes ma’am.”
Voice of: Cousin of the Deceased
“After when Junior got shot and he drop on the ground, my lee bredda mi deh pan his back and Junior fell on top of him. And my brother tried to shake him and he told my bredda that he is going to sleep. Then as he arrived at the hospital—as a matter of fact, he died on the spot. At this time, my brother is in the hospital and they said that he might not end up walking.”

“So it’s one gunshot that he got to his leg?”

“Yes ma’am. I think it was a sixteen gauge shotgun scatter shot that got my lee bredda—stray way bullet.”
A relative says that Requena had been receiving death threats prior to his killing:

“Well couple weeks aback, Junior tell my stepfather that he had some beef with somebody over the bridge and last night when they were walking across, he asked my stepfather for a machete because he said somebody was trailing him. And by the time he reached at the berries tree, that’s where they shot him.”

“So the family believes maybe this is the same person who killed him?”
