Over $17,000 stolen from BWS Belmopan Branch
Three robbers netted over seventeen thousand dollars from BWSL in Belmopan in a Tuesday evening robbery. Reports are that around five-fifteen on Tuesday evening, employees were inside the branch office packaging the cash when three masked men entered through the unlocked front door. According to sources, the security guard, Clinton Nah had his back to the assailants when they made their way inside, armed with a single firearm; they demanded the money and made good their escape. The robbers made off with seventeen thousand five hundred and fifty eight dollars and eight five cents in Belize currency along with two hundred and seventy U.S dollars. News Five understands that when the robbery took place, the security transfer truck was a couple minutes late and for some inexplicable reason the main door wasn’t locked, as is customary. Numerous reports say that the men were spotted in the court yard of the Garden City Plaza around a table, doing their surveillance before they put on masks and committed the robbery. BWSL says that since the incident, they have beefed up security at their offices country-wide. Police have since detained Nah and investigations continue.
