18 year old is charged from ruthless downtown murder of deportee

While no arrests have been made in the past weekend’s murder, one man was charged today for the murder of twenty-three year old Michael Garbutt, who was killed in a most heinous manner in broad daylight and in the heavily trafficked downtown area. Today, the man police believe shot Garbutt three times to the head at point blank range was charged for his murder. The suspect is eighteen year Dennis Robert Matura, a resident of Wagner’s Lane, which is just about two blocks away from where Garbutt was killed. Matura was arraigned Chief Magistrate, Ann Marie Smith, where he was unrepresented, but had relatives present in court, who were emotional because they believe he is innocent. Matura has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison where he will remain until his case goes to a preliminary inquiry, which is set to begin on June first.

Garbutt was murdered on April fourth, at about fifteen minutes before three o’clock in the afternoon. He had just finished smoking a cigarette in front of Dee Dee’s restaurant and was walking toward a vehicle when the gunman walked up from behind and shot him once in the head. After Garbutt fell, the assailant stood over him and shot him two more times in the head. It was a gruesome scene and was especially traumatizing for Garbutt’s aunt, who was visiting him from the US and was waiting for him in the vehicle when she witnessed his murder. Garbutt was deported to Belize from Los Angeles in June 2011 after serving time for firearm related offenses.
i’m really fed up with the situation we are facing in this country with all these murders…someday someone will say enough and start killing these same guys that go out and commit these crimes…whether it be robbery or rape or murder…im sorry to say this but the younger generation just downright have no common sense and no value for life…all these so called bad bwai dem out here are just scared lil boys that carry guns…useless to our community and all of u should hang high…the day will come when u and ur innocent family members will pay for what u have done caz this world is round and it will come back to u or someone u love ten fold…
Schools really should develop classess in inductive and deductive thiking and reasoning. Our children have lost the ability to analyze things and think it through. The end to every disagreement is to kill the opponent. Please teach the young people to think and talk out issues. What is the purpose of a gang, they own nothing, so what are they killing each other for, it makes no sense.

@1tallguy i agreed with you! Its so pathetic the gov will be apologising to these criminials instead of giving them some good yrs behind bars. so they can think about all the families they hurt! Lets see if they going to loss the evidences!
bring back the death penalty and see if murders won’t go down drastically.. jail time will just waste tax dollars just as giving them money for the truce.. theres a lot of work thats needs to be done esp in the city, bring all those criminals and have them work in this sun hot for nothing to pay back for their crimes
