6 containers filled with Methylamine Hydrochloride; will owner, Vernon Cuthkelvin, be charged?
Will any charges Speaking to News Five this evening, attorney at law Lionel Welch, who is representing Vernon Cuthkelvin, says from what he knows, no charges will be brought against his client for the content of six containers that were confiscated by the Customs Department in February. Tests confirm that the forty foot containers contain methylamine hydrochloride, a substance that is a precursor for the manufacture of methamphetamines which is also known as crystal meth, a potent and extremely addictive drug that has a huge market in the United States and Europe. The Anti-Drug Unit, which is leading the investigation with help from US agents, has also indicated that it does not foresee any charges because the importation of the particular substance is not illegal since it is not an illicit in its pure form. According to Welch, the methylamine hydrochloride is also used to manufacture certain medical drugs. So where does that put Cuthkelvin or the drugs for that matter? From what we understand, the only charges that can be placed against him is for making a false declaration because the customs entry says that the containers were loaded with fertilizer. But for that to happen, Welch says that the Customs would have to prove that his client knew that it was not fertilizer. And for the containers to be released, Welch says an application will have to be made to the Supreme Court. Welch also told New Five that the value of the substance is eleven point two billion dollars. As for the Customs Department, should they succeed in charges of false declaration, it would mean that Cuthkelvin could face fines of up to two million Belize dollars, three times the cost of duties. One more thing, Cuthkelvin is believed to be the front man for the importation of the substance. His company, Belize Gardens Consortium, which was established last year, reportedly only has a startup capital of ten thousand dollars. The other director who owns forty percent is Maria Montejo of Orange Walk Town.

Well, since Mr. Cuthkelvin owns Belize Garden Consortium He probably was going to manufacture his own fertilizer. why was a sting operation not set up to find out.

Are we stupid or what? I am not a cop but why not follow the shipping list to see where it leads. I am sure the source would not be reputable then a charge of intent to manufacture illicit drugs can be establish, especially when you realize his little startup company doesn not have the purchasing power to move that much merchandise.
Does his business produce pharmasuticals so why is welch trying to establish that it can be used to manufacture medical supplies we know that, and we also know it can be used to manufacture meth.
How the heck can we already get to the point that he will not be charged before any real thaught is put into it? There are some who are serving life sentences because of cercumstantial evedence that was introduce in court. Look at the big picture.
I suspect Cuthkelvin is in a tough place — prison behind Door 1, and maybe beheading or some other bad fate behind Door 2, where his cartel partners are, and where they really do not want him to talk to DEA. My bet is that at some point he will make a run for it.
