City man gets 5 years for Burglary plus 3 years for Unpaid Fines

Lynton Sutherland

A Pinks Alley resident who was caught burglarizing the warehouse of a Belize City doctor confessed to his crime and will now do the time. Thirty-six year Lynton Sutherland appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith and pleaded guilty to a charge of Burglary. A non-custodial sentence could not be imposed since Sutherland has two previous convictions for which he never paid his fines. The Chief Magistrate sentenced him to five years in prison plus an additional three for the unpaid fines, which is to run consecutively. On Friday night, Dr. Pedro Gonzalez found Sutherland inside his warehouse on Handy Side Street. Dr. Gonzalez called the cops and held restrained Sutherland until the police arrive. Sutherland, who did not manage to steal anything, was then escorted to the Queen Street Police Station, where he remained until his arraignment this morning.
