P.U.P. reacts to elevated level of violence
After five o’clock this evening, the opposition reacted to the violence. A release reads “The People’s United Party is extremely concerned at the tepid response of the Government and the Minister of National Security to the elevated levels of violence currently occurring in Belize City, which has blanketed the City and surrounding communities with fear, placed citizens under siege, and put at risk the lives of residents. This state of affairs can only be categorized as severe and urgent…” It continued that; “The P.U.P. is prepared to work, as a matter of urgency, with Government and civil society partners to chart a way forward which will reflect the multidimensional and holistic approach needed at this time.”

“we are angry at politicians and the political parties because OUR sons, brothers, husbands, uncles and cousins choose to commit murder. We need to get our own houses in check.”
@Ben – I totally agree Ben, but some feel they have no choice when there arent any jobs and the government is paying criminals to do what they do best….It falls on both sides. And it’ll take ALL sides to stop it.
@Ben – Yes I totally agree with that comment. But you can’t explain away the fact that this environment was created by the government. I mean, what do you do when there aren’t any jobs and they are paying you to keep a certain level of crime in the land?
Being in gangs is a business in Belize, Dude. You get paid, publicity, and attention. Ask GOB.
This must change to curb violence, drugs and gangs. Invest in an adequate education and health system. Ministers stop playing politics. Do your job of real governing!
@Ben, tell your udp government to stop playing politics.
