Larry Sutherland injured during weekend of shootings

Aside from this morning’s shooting of Corrington Bowden, there was another shooting on Saturday night. Three gunmen on bicycles reportedly approached a group of friends on Raccoon Street Extension and opened fire, but only one person was injured. Forty year old Larry Sutherland was shot once on the back and the bullet exited his abdomen. After being injured, he ran from the area and was assisted by a passerby who drove him to the hospital.  News Five met Sutherland’s sister and girlfriend at the K.H.M.H. where he underwent surgery.

“Saturday night he come out ah his house fi go park ih vehicle and call it wah night cause I text ah and seh please stay een cause lot ah thing di happen. Ih text back and seh okay. So di night ih gone, park ih vehicle and meet some young man. So he sit down pan top ah wah vehicle di socialize wid dehn and somebody pass and just start shoot. He get ketch eena ih lower back and ih exit ih stomach. He run and wah vehicle pick up ah and bring ah dah hospital. Dat dah all I know so far. We noh know da who, we noh know nothing else.”

“Yeah, first time something like this happen to he. He noh really into dah gang world like dat. He live dah back deh. He deal wid ih Poor and Famous Culture Club. He dah di founder ah dat and he deal wid his youths and stuff like dat. He noh mess wid dah gang thing like dat. Ih have friends, yes but I think ih mi deh dah di wrong place at di wrong time wid di wrong crowd.”

“I come eena di taxi and thing and I call he and tell ah I deh front ah ih house. He seh ih di come and I wait deh fi at least ten minutes and I want know why he tek so long if he seh he deh right up street from ih house. Den he call me and he seh babe ah get shot. Ih seh mi vehicle deh right up di street from mi house, please go fi mi vehicle and come fi me. Dehn time deh he run way by di school by burial ground. He run by deh so den afta dat when I gwein towards di vehicle fi go pick up ah and thing, somebody drove off wid di vehicle so I mi can’t go assist ah. But somebody came by at di same time and just put ah eena dehn vehicle and ker now. Just now when I mi deh eena di hospital di talk to ha and ask ah weh happen and thing, ih seh he mi di talk to some ah friends and somebody just rode up and just start shoot and ting. When he run dah den he stumble ova something and he fell and dah when he get up back fi run again dats when he get shot eena ih back and buss through ih belly.”

Sutherland remains hospitalized in stable condition and is recovering from surgery. So tonight, there are more police patrols but the security of citizens remains a major concern as it is expected that the gang warfare is still not over.
