Under Siege: Security Ministry brings B.D.F. to protect Belize City Streets
Following the weekend’s reign of terror, the Ministry of National Security has taken the following measures to bring some normalcy to the streets in the old capital. Vehicle check points have been established throughout the City, on the highways, at Belcan and Bel China Bridges as well as lookout points at the approach to the Swing Bridge. The ministry says that a security Corridor is established along Central American Boulevard and Princess Margret Drive from the Esso Depot to UB Campus in Buttonwood Bay. Over forty Belize Defence Force Soldiers were sworn in as Special Constables to allow them to carry out their functions during this operation and search operations will be carried out in hot spots, including George Street, Taylors Alley, Rocky Road and Mayflower areas. the Ministry is also appealing to the public to be patient and to have IDs ready in light of the measures being put in place.
It’s a start. GOB must overwhelm the gangsters with force, never let up until they are finished FOR GOOD.
I am full suport of our minister of national security actions in calling in BDF to assist in restorting order to our great country. I am confident that our citizens will again feel safe walking down the streets at any hour.
This is not soldiers job!!! Soldiers don’t shoot warning shots!! I believe that soldiers should have been brought in to the city and give the city a big a thorough sweep and shake up. 100% turn over things and arrest and move out and pick all hot spots and sudden give them crazy shake ups. People didn’t see soldiers in the streets, only when they came into the city to shake up the specific area. We used to do this in the 90’s and it worked. And city people need to be tolerant to the soldiers job. Please allow the soldiers to do their jobs. No complaining and crying, Belize is small and some of our families are involved in criminal activity, but I tell you if police have to shooot my cousin involved in crime, so be it!!! They choose that form of life and whatever choice they make in life that is what they will harvest!
WE NEED WE SOLDIERS ALONG THE BORDER WHERE THE GUATEMALANS THE RAPE EVERYTHING FROM OUR FOREST MR MINISTER. ALONG THE BORDER, FROM SARSTOON TO RIO NORTH OF CAYO, THE GUATEMALANS ARE HAVING A FEAST.
at this point in time we belizeans need to be realistic. the troops and the police patrols in the area will only to a certain extent minimize crime. these people will not comitt crime in front of the authorities. for instance, watch how far pinky was when he was murdered. was there any concentration of the law in this particular area. “NO” so make we think real. and the juditiary system need to get on board and deal with notorius criminals as they deserve. to the minister of National Security. belize city is as that because of to much interferance of human rights, ombudsman, and other gugus institutions who at the end of the day wash thier hands easy and blame GOB for the high rate of crime
The crime wave in the Jewel can be attributed to the low conviction rate.
belice es de guatemala ….. belize is part of guatemala, a war will soon show that is true
We are currently harvesting our own product, Both Political Parties, are to be blame, No job creation, no real plan to help our brothers in the city, while poverty continue to escalate. Educate them, help those single mothers, love those kids, While election time we give them free goodies, $$$ for votes, but what happens when election is finished?? they go back to the same way of life. we can arm our police and soldiers, yet not address the root cause, its helpless. Where is the DFC that was promised to help small loans to students, single mothers, speed up the process…but guess wha?t when people are left with no education no jobs,no hope, oh yes Mr Politician love its re-election so easy, you can name them, That’s a sad reality. Today is Belize City, tomorrow is Corozal, OW, and rest of the country , since the breeding atmosphere is perfect to continue the harvest of home grown kids with no direction.
rasman, that might be true that the Guatemalans are raping the forest along the border but, our innocent Belizeans are being massacred INSIDE our very homes in our beds as we watch tv and try to sleep.
Do YOU have a problem with the muscle now patroling the streets on the southside? Talk tu mi !! By the way, is it rasman or is it rassman.
BDF and Police fraid themselves LOL. What deh wah do? Sometimes deh dah d same one weh d shoot up and thief. All this violence are signs of the times we are living in. No one can clean up this mess but God. God’s day is coming and all badness, sickness, death will be done away with.
Sad that Belize is extremely dangerous now.
SALDANO that is wishful tinking. unnless you take all 100 of them and put them on a chopper and push them out the door on the Guatemalian side of the border it will not stop.
lol, didnt i say about a year ago that matial law is comming…
@ “la muerte”:
If Guatemala had the capability of invading Belize, it would have done so when it would have been easiest for it. But, as people like you know, the Guatemalan army is too busy trying to control the gang and drug cartel violence within their own borders to care about fulfilling this irrational desire of yours. So be quiet and go back into that primitive hiding place of yours.
Soemtimes you have to fight fire with fire!
I also support the measures put into place. It is better to have the security forces and not need them than to need them and not have them. Saldivar and Barrow need to stop acting like this gang truce is doing any good though. I don’t know what measure of fool they scale us as but either they have to be really dumb to say something like that on TV or Belizeans have to be even dumber to believe it.
Wow! 80 more police and I don’t feel any safer. For a fact there are still shootings happening in the city with 80 more police on the street. I understand that the police can’t be everywhere at once but that just goes to show that those criminals roaming the streets have no respect for the law. You may ask why is this happening it is because our prime minister gave this no count bwai sense of importance’s that makes them feel obligated to do as they please. Don’t forget he the pay them with your hard working taxpaying money to make they behave themselves as if we’re dealing with kids are you kidding me and does anyone find that as a problem? Because I do. Maybe they think the more problems they cause for this government the more money they might paid to behave and that is just downright stupid to begin with. They have created the problem now we have the deal with by feeling trap and as prisoner in our country to say we are law abating citizens
Thats good! We need the BDF on the streets as often as they can be so crime can be reduce!
WHAT IN THE WORLD TOOK THEM SO LONG? CLOSING THE BARN DOOR AFTER THE COWS HAVE ESCAPED?
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CURFEWS WE HAD WHEN I WAS A CHILD—WHEN THINGS WERE NOWHERE WHERE THEY ARE NOW? BACK THEN WE HAD THE BRITISH FORCES TAKING OVER AND IT WORKED. DO WE NEED TO BE RE-COLONIZED IN THIS FASHION—BUT HEY, DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES!!! LET THE SOLDIERS TAKE OVER!!! AND GOD BLESS ‘EM AND BE WITH THEM!!!
