Arthur Young’s shooting death still suspicious
Few specifics are confirmed on the killing of Arthur Young, the reputed leader of the Taylor’s Alley Gang who was the suspect for the Friday night of George Street boss, Shelton “Pinky” Tillett. Police are tight lipped saying only that he was shot in the pan of a vehicle when he attempted to disarm an officer. In the absence of credible information, News Five’s Isani Cayetano followed the trail and the timeline as to what went down when Young was found at an abandoned house in Vista del Mar. But until tonight, there is no confirmation as to who has viewed his full body at the KHMH; his mother could not on Monday and the morgue was under guard. News Five’s Isani Cayetano revisits this story.

The upshot of a string of vicious gang-related homicides across the Old Capital over the weekend plunged residents into an acute state of fear.

Less than twenty-four hours following the initial spate of shootings the internet was alive with unverified reports that several others, including a few known George Street captains, had been terminated in what was rumored to be an all-out cleansing. The bloodbath would indeed persist; however, at five o’clock on Saturday evening the official number stood at four. By that time the remains of Orlando Reyes, Shelton August and Kamille Andrews had been carted off to the Belize City morgue. Elsewhere, Scenes of Crime technicians were occupied with the processing of Peter Flowers’ murder. He was gunned down on Caesar Ridge Road not far from where he worked as a stevedore at Port of Belize Ltd. While it is arguable that Bam, as Reyes was also known, is a victim of circumstance the calculated execution of August, eight hours later, was a stern message sent directly to affiliates of the George Street Gang.

Who tailed the couple to the service station? Who alighted the silver Pathfinder and discharged on the unsuspecting pair? According to police, that individual is believed to have been Arthur Young, a nefarious character, arguably the most feared in the streets of Belize City since ‘Junie Balls’ McKenzie. Based on descriptions of the shooter Young was a complete match of the profile. In the hours that followed he went into hiding and like the enigma that he often was all that remained were a series of text messages claiming that he had surrendered himself to the authorities. It would later be discovered that Young was killed while in police custody. His death is also shrouded in mystery.
What transpired during the time the arresting officers, presumably the Gang Suppression Unit, picked him up from an abandoned residence in Vista del Mar to when news of his shooting death became known is currently under investigation. 
The brass of the police department however, remains tightlipped about the circumstances under which he was expunged, stating only that Young was mortally wounded while struggling with an officer for his service weapon. While that is an official account, other versions suggest that he had been subdued and handcuffed before being placed in the pan of the vehicle. If that is so, was he restrained with both arms in front of him? Had a struggle ensued between Young and the officers resulting in him getting shot while being transported in the pickup then what explains the bloodstained dirt road at the entrance of the community? Of equal uncertainty is whether or not there will be full disclosure of the facts surrounding his death once the investigation is completed.
From what we have pieced together there is even doubt as to whether Young was indeed Pinky’s shooter. Young was to hand himself in to police on Monday because he heard he was wanted. There are two witnesses who say that they heard him screaming when he was being beaten by the police at about one o’clock. They also say that they saw when he was thrown into the pan of the police vehicle in handcuffs so that disarming the police is highly unlikely. In the circumstances, however, it appears that he was a wanted man.
Beyond the inquiry into the weekend bloodbath is the question of the existing truce. How long does the government intend to justify the targeted shootings as random acts of violence before admitting to the Belizean public that the armistice has been over for some time now? How can it be said that other groups operating within the infrastructure of the truce are at a ceasefire when alliances have long been forged between various factions, including the George Street Gang? With the weekend’s demise of Shelton August and Arthur Young, powerful gang leaders of the past, there comes an uncertainty that the bitter rivalry is far from over. Whoever is responsible for the killings of terrible gangsters, cleaning up Belize is overdue.
I know there are rumours of informants or traitors working inside the gangs themselves — if true, it is ironic justice.
There are also rumours, maybe dreams of a GOB secret squad of “Untouchables” from BDF or police working off of a hit list. Maybe, with Belize being a more dangerous place to live than Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen, where there are WARS going on, it has become necessary to shoot first and ask questions later — or never.
But the deaths of the worst gangsters can only make the whole nation safer in the future. How many innocent people have died because of the acts or orders of these animals?
Why is the media so concerned about this gangster’s death….TO GOD BE THE GLORY….this piece of garbage will not terrorize innocent people any more….he is dead let us move on with our lives people..there is more cleaning up to do……let the police go after the gangs with out mercy…they dont have mercy on innocent people.
When you deal with the devil you get all you get is what the devil has to give. The Bible says the devil comes to steal to kill and to destroy, this is exactly what is happening now. The enemy has crept into these peoples lives set up residence and stole their freedom from them, he has destroy any decent life they could have had and when he was done with them they were killed. God will not be mocked. This is why I pray the church begin to do revivals to begin to honour the Heavenly Father again, He is the only one who can change the direction of Belize.
celebrate the deaths of these “gang” leaders and stop the investigation of how they died. It doesn’t matter how they died.. the police should have done that a long time ago. The media is trying to put a black eye on the police force for getting rid of these fools and when they were killing innocent people the media was blaming the very same police force. Cancel the gang truce and kill everybody affiliated with a gang.!!

I think the next time the Police should not report on cases where they actually have a hand in eradicating a menace to society. The game plan should be…kidnap them one by one and just off them. Don’t even report it. If someone stumbles on a dead body of a gangster, then the postmortem should say “Cause of death undetermined because of advanced state of decomposition:. Case open and shut.” No need to spend public funds investigating cases like those. If they go missing…who cares. Lots of loved go missing from time to time and the cases are never solved…like “Jack and the missing girls”. This is urban warfare. The quicker we get rid of these people, the quicker Belize Citywill be safe again. Stop playing there stupid games of cat and mouse. Meeting with them, paying them, then setting up checkpoints to inconvenience law abiding citizens. That’s a waste of time. You know who these members are, you know where they bases are, you know the neighborhood that breeds them. What else do you need to know to take a practical and decisive action? We all know that Arthur was no angel, but if the Belize judicial system was effective the public wouldn’t have to worry about Arthur and the rest of these so call area leaders. These guys have been arrested so many times and walk away scottfree. So they feel like the can do anything and won’t be penalize for it. Some have killed so many people that they should be classified as a serial killer. People don’t understand that killing could become an addiction, if we don’t question GSU actions then we might have another problem on our hands. I personally witnesses GSU beating someone for double riding which was totally uncalled for,they have more serious crimes to address than stop and beat someone for something so minor. Last but not least, the system is so weak that they allow convicted killers to leave the jail and work at old Belize as cooks. Check it out for yourself .
Well I must commend “Disappointed” for those inspiring words. Our society needs to eradicate thise gangsters because government has been a major part of the root cause of this entire mayhem… Why did Dean Barrow offer these gang leaders money to calm down? Now they want more money that comes out of taxpayers pockets! I have been given the chance to meet Arthur Young, and spent a few short hours with him without having the knowledge of his previous allegedly criminal history records. Honestly, what I saw in him was warmth, wisdom and love in his persona. What I saw in him was not the ruthless and fearless person the media and the public have claimed him to be, but rather the opposite by way of tone he uses in conversation, eye contact, body language (yes he may have been afraid of the police, but who wouldn’t be if the police were out to get you as he said, “The way I see it right now, if I meet up to the police, if they meet me in a spot I think they are going to try to kill me.”) This definitely sounds prophetic; he knew that the police would be the ones to end his life. We do not know the full story. We do not know fully what Mr. Young went through, his experiences, his real demons tormenting him every single waking hour of his remaining life, what changes he wished to make. We shouldn’t solely rely on what the media says, what the police say, what the authorities say, what the Government says, what our educational system say. The point is we do not know the entire truth; we even may all have been fooled! Remember, all humans are flawed and yet perfection potentially exists within. Yes Mr. Young is a gang member and a skilled one at that and he has made mistakes; but based on my observation, I didn’t see any ruthless killer in him; I saw a man who cared, who wanted to see positive changes in his country, in his fellow gang members, and as much as in himself. The sad thing is even if gang members want to bring changes to their lives and the lives of others, it is a difficult ordeal. Some gang members may have realized the mistakes they have made as a youth and wished to change, but after the realizations kicks in, they are faced with the sad truth that it may even be too late. Arthur Young could have brought inspiration to risky youths and potential members.
Those who have led a life of a gang are more able to inspire positive changes as they know what kind of life being in a gang really is; they have experienced it. Additionally, eradicating gang leaders and members by way of execution is not the answer! Crime and violence would continue on; gangs are not the only ones responsible with crime and violence. If we really want to see changes, each of us needs to look within and be the judge of our own actions, rather than worrying about and criticizing the supposedly “evil” deeds others make. Want to see positive changes? Then change yourself and then by example, you can inspire others to do the same.
I do not know Arthur Young personally, but in those short hours when I met him, I have not felt any eerie, malicious or negative vibes from him. We all know intuitively and instinctively deep within how a person really is, how authentic they are when first introductions are made. Majority of us ignore it though.
