Millions of dollars in illegal extractions at Caracol

Two Guatemalans will be facing charges of illegal entry into the country and into a national park, illegal logging and resisting arrest. On Wednesday, a special patrol conducted in the Caracol Archaeological Reserve, discovered the two men conducting illegal logging operations. According to a press release from the Friends for Conservation and Development, in recent weeks the sounds of chainsaws could be heard in the vicinity of the Caracol epicenter, which is almost five miles inside Belize. On Wednesday night the joint forces carried out an operation, where they seized a thirty-three inch chainsaw, measuring tape and machine oil. They apprehended two culprits, while one got away. The men, identified as nineteen year old Cruz Milian and twenty-six year old Miguel Angel Sandoval gave their address as La Rejoya, Petén in Guatemala. Both men were transported to the San Ignacio police station where they are expected to be charged. FCD is reporting that the extraction of timber in the area has escalated in recent months. In 2011, their assessment put the value of timber lost in the Caracol Archaeological Reserve at over two point four million U.S dollars.

Whatever is the MAXIMUM SENTENCE, it must be imposed on them as an example to others who would violate our borders and steal our resources. Foreign invaders our destroying our lumber, our nature preserves, our Jewel’s natural beauty, and the legacy we should leave to the future generations.

MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF THESE VIOLATORS. Voltaire said something like, “The English think it is good from time to time to hang an Admiral in order to encourage the others.” I agree with that principle. How about you?

I wonder what the gutemalan president has to say about this incident. My guess is that he will contend that they were detained within gutemala because in his and his countrymen’s warped ignorant minds Belize is a part of gutemala. I am in total agreement with Storm these low life foreign invaders are destroying our natural heritage and taking away the natural treasures that our children will one day inherit. Our government needs to start to take a zero tolerance approach in protecting our country’s boarder instead of bowing down and turning the other cheek just because the gutemalan government wants us to comply with their ignorant demands. I am willing to bet if we go to Tikal and start cutting down trees the …….. will have their security forces shoot us on the spot. I am sick and tired of our government allowing gutemalans to take a crap on our country all the time.

Good job catching them! Let’s see you get a conviction now?
