UNIBAM struck out of case, but not giving up

Caleb Orozco and UNIBAM issued a press release this evening on the court ruling in Orozco pretrial hearing. In the Caleb Orozco and UNIBAM versus The Attorney General of Belize litigation, the second claimant, UNIBAM was removed. Caleb Orozco, the first claimant, maintains standing under the Constitution of Belize and according to the release “will continue to pursue the case.”  The release went on to say that, “It also provided for reports to be filed by various expert witnesses on behalf of Orozco and various interested parties. It is expected that the matter will proceed to be determined on the merits once those expert reports are filed.” It went on to say that “Section 53 criminalizes consensual sexual activities between adults that amount to ‘carnal intercourse against the order of nature’, including between men and women. This case is focused on consensual sexual activities between adults. It does not seek to ‘decriminalize’ coerced sexual activities or pedophilia.” Orozco and UNIBAM are represented by a team of regional and local lawyers, including lead counsel Christopher Hamel-Smith, Lisa Shoman and Simeon Samson. The regional team comprises of the Faculty of Law UWI Rights Advocacy Project (URAP).

Gay people need to understand that, it’s not that we hate them. It’s just !***!@# wrong and well grossed out. Totally not what our parents and morals taught us!

Get ur gay !***% out of Belize………

  2. Belizean says:

Lets just get em kicked out for GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!

  3. Asa DeMatteo says:

To Happy and Belizean: You need to understand that insult and bullying are morally wrong, even in your world view. Striking UNIBAM from the case is a procedural matter having very little effect on the main complaint. And remember that it took just one woman to strike down on constitutional grounds the ability of church schools to fire a teacher for being unmarried and pregnant. Don’t start celebrating victory for your bias and discrimination just yet.

  4. Louisville,Ky says:

Asa Dematteo, it seems to me that you and the rest of the homosexual community did not get the memo. The larger Belizean community will NOT have our constitution changed to accomodate your slackness. Straight like that! ( pun intended )
You all need to leave well enough alone. Quite frankly, nobody gives a rat’s backside what, ‘you people’ do amongst yourselves in the closet. We could not care any less which man di back up pahn wah nadda man.
But, if you want to Insist on flaunting your faceyness then be prepared to suffer the consequences and you will have no one to blame but yourselves. Consider this free advice.

  5. Gary says:

Yeah, I must say that these gays should just leave our constitution alone and save themselves the harassment. They will NEVER be accepted in our community. If the ruling comes out in favor of them it will just put most of their lives in jeopardy. Ppl will target them especially if they are flaunting their nastiness everywhere

  6. Bzeman says:

While we are faced with escalating crime, people struggling everyday to find jobs, struggling to feed their children and send them to school ..and many other critical social issues ….we are spending time and resources fighting for the right for men to have sex with men…. what does that say about our country????

  7. Stand up says:

Don’t worry about Asa, he’s a homo married to man in San Fran who knows nothing about the Belizean situation and is wanting to make Belize like San Francisco!! Sovereign nations have the right to decide matters of morality in their own nations and in the proper processes of democracy and respect. And if a country doesn’t want to legalize homosexuality, that’s up to them. You can always send for them in San Francisco or NY and let Obama pay for their welfare and hormone therapies.

  8. Asa DeMatteo says:

I’ve not been here for too long an interval. For those commenters who say gay people should not change Belize’s constitution, you should read it before making a fool of yourselves. The S53 case seeks constitutional protection of equal rights, not constitutional change. To the man who said that I know nothing about Belize, I suspect I know more about your constitution than you and more about the criminal code. You betray your ignorance with your welfare and hormone statement. Gay people as a group are more affluent than average and gay men are and like being men. Gary’s not so subtle threat will not intimidate us. We have dealt with threats, beatings, and murders for decades and centuries and we’re still here. You’ll have to get used to it or continue to live with your sour stomach. The same goes for Louisville’s unsolicited advice. I figure I have about 20 years of life left (I’m 66) so I’ll bet anyone here US$100 that Belize will remove legal restrictions on gay people before I die. Any takers?
