Belize City woman is charged for murder of B.D.F. corporal
We reported on Wednesday that Marsha Reid, the common-law-wife of murdered B.D.F. corporal Donovan Castillo, was released after forty-eight hours in custody. Well, her freedom was short-lived as today she was formally arrested and charged with Murder. Reid was arraigned in Belmopan this afternoon and is now on remand at the Central Prison among few other women that are behind bars for murder. The post mortem examination on the thirty-seven year old murder victim confirmed that the cause of death was Bronchial Aspiration Asphyxia due to a stab wound to the neck. Castillo was stabbed a total of four times on Monday morning as he slept at his family house on Teacher’s Street in Dangriga. Reports are that before attacking him, Reid made sure that his nephew, who was also at the house, could not call for help by locking him in a separate bedroom and taking his cell phone. Castillo was stabbed in his bedroom and tried to escape but collapsed on the living room sofa, where he died. There is plenty speculation about what drove Reid to attack him, including an unpaid debt, domestic abuse and that Castillo simply wanted out of the relationship. Police are investigating all angles.
Wow, sometimes I wonder if our Police Officers are trained properly in Criminology, Investigations, Obtaining Forensic and all Evidence, and how long to cordon off a Crime Scene. I am also concern about the way our law dictate the release of anyone after 48 hours statute of limitation without any charges filed for such henious crime. This being said, I’m quite sure that if the Officers were going by the book, this person could have been re-arrested before she even reach the Station Gate for “Reasonable Doubt To Believe” that she committed the crime of murder after her own confession as evidence. The thing about this is, what if she had disappeared in thin air, swim to Pto. Barrios, Guate., or even committed suicide or murder?. If our Law allows this sort of embarrasment to our Officers & Country, then I think it should be amended to avoid this nonsense. It’s a damn shame people, only in Belize.
