Brothers face rape charge

In another case of sexual abuse, two brothers were accused of raping a Belize City female. According to the alleged victim, she visited the home of Austin Stevens to meet a friend when she was attacked by twenty-nine year old Austin and his younger brother, twenty-five year old Jermaine Stevens. The woman alleges that she was dragged to a bed inside the house and while Jermaine raped her, Austin stood watching.

This morning, the siblings appeared in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. Jermaine, the first to be arraigned, was read a single charge of Rape while his brother charged with Abetment to Rape. No plea was taken and an objection to bail by the prosecutor was upheld by Chief Magistrate Smith. Both brothers were remanded to custody at the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-fifth.
