Poll says crime and violence most critical matter

The country is currently battling with increasing crime and violence as well as an economic downturn. So in our last poll, we asked viewers which issue they believe is more pressing. Seventy-seven percent voted that crime and violence is the most critical matter while the remaining twenty-three percent say the economic problems are more urgent. One blogger who agrees with the majority commented that; “we can learn to spend less, work hard to keep our jobs, and account for every penny, but how can we deal with each day thinking that it can be our last?” Another valid point was made by one of the persons who voted for the economy; they are of the view that the high unemployment and poverty rates are driving many persons to turn to criminal activity. Turning to tonight’s question: Do you expect more job losses in the year ahead given the grim economic outlook? Send your comments and responses using your SMART phones to 8686 or post your vote on our e-poll at channel5belize.com. You can also send an email with your comments to questions@channel5belize.com.

  1. Storm says:

Economic prospects are poor for the foreseeable future — when the U.S. sneezes, Belize catches cold.

If Obama is re-elected with his ineffective policies and drive for debt, it will be VERY grim throughout the world. Like it or not, the States still have the leading economy; if they prosper, it will trickle down to the rest of us.

If Romney is elected, there is a chance of reversing the economic downward spiral, depending on what policies he enacts. But we can learn from history, and when Reagan was elected in 1980, it took 2 full years to BEGIN to climb out of the economic mess Carter had created.

The earliest we can hope for recovery to begin is probably mid-2014, IF Romney wins. If Obama wins, the problems will compound, and it will be close to 2020, under the NEXT president [elected in 2016] before there will be hope.
