Con-artist collecting money, but doesn’t work for Lands Department

Charlatans and confidence men have always been in existence in the country. But one such con artist has become so prominent, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Agriculture was obligated to send a press release to clear its name from the habitual frauds executed in its name. According to the government press office release “the Ministry hereby categorically confirms that Mr. Elroy Bastarrachea is not an employee of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Agriculture, more specifically, of the Lands and Surveys Department. Neither does he work for either the Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega or the Minister of State, Honorable Hugo Patt constituency offices.” Apparently a man who purportedly goes by the name Elroy Bastarrachea is collecting money payable to the Government of Belize for Land transactions. Money should only be paid at the Land and Surveys Department. Proof of payment in the form of a Government of Belize Revenue Collector’s receipt should always be demanded. The Lands and Surveys Department is doing everything in its powers to minimize these incidents.
