6 year old killed in fatal highway accident
While the members of that voyage were lucky, the occupants of a vehicle traveling on the highway this morning did not experience the same fate. A six year old boy is dead following a traffic accident on the Northern Highway just before nine this morning. Leron Jacobs was travelling with thirty-one year old Michelle Saldivar from Orange Walk to Belize City. But soon after passing Rhaburn’s Ridge, Saldivar lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road into a ditch. Jacobs was flung from the vehicle into the water and suffered severe injuries to the head and body. The boy was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital in an unconscious state and he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
It’s a common practice in Belize to drive or get into a car without wearing seat belts or using a child’s seat for safety.
When is the GOV going to stop talking and start enforcing car safety procedures?
So sad for the little child and his family. My prayers are with both of them.
But there is a lesson here to protect our own children — ALWAYS use seatbelts and for younger children, child safety seats. People can survive terrible collisions if they are properly belted in. When a person is ejected, it is almost always because he was not properly secured.
It’s your child’s LIFE — invest in the correct child’s seat, and invest the time to belt the child into it, every time. We don’t plan for when accidents will occur, so we always have to be ready.
NO SEATBELT!!!!!!!!!!
It should be a law to have children under 9 in carseats/ booster seats when in a vehicle and on the back seat. Parents it is your children’s lives you have in your hands when driving.
people fair enough about the seatbelt but please ease off please these people are friends of mine and loss of their little boy is enough punishment at the minute. My heart goes out to Michelle as I can’t even imagine how she must be feeling…especially since it was her birthday yesterday too….:( so sad.
