Benque Town Council and S.S.B. agree on debt payment
The Social Security Board issued a press release today responding to a news story we aired on Wednesday night. News Five had received a copy of a letter, issued to Benque Viejo businesses from the S.S.B., asking them to pay their taxes directly to the S.S.B. to cover a debt of over one hundred thousand dollars owed by the Town Council. It is reported that the monies owed were incurred under the administration of the previous U.D.P. Mayor, Nick Ruiz. In its letter issued today, the S.S.B. stated that the Benque Viejo Town Council is paying current contributions on a monthly basis and that recently the arrears for the years 2007-2012 were assessed for the part-time employees during that six year period at the town council. The release ended by saying, “S.S.B. has already met with the Mayor, Mr. Miguel Velasquez, and an agreement has been made in order to pay the arrears while at the same time keeping current with the payment of month contributions.”
ARREARS FOR 6 YEARS???
I’d put the former mayor and the entire council in debtor’s prison. SO WHERE IS THE MONEY THE COLLECTED, IF THEY DID NOT SPEND IT FOR THEIR LEGAL OBLIGATIONS?
I hope somebody in GOB cares about that — those funds belong to the citizens of Benque, not their crooked leaders. Prison for sticky-fingered politicians.
