2 drug busts yield almost 17 pounds of marijuana
Police have also made two drug busts in Independence and San Ignacio Town. The first was a joint operation conducted by police at the home of forty-four year old businessman, Dwayne Logan and thirty-two year old Donavel Burgess. According to police, the search led to the discovery of two black plastic bags containing twelve point two-five ounces of suspected cannabis.
Also found were three thousand and seventy-six dollars in Belize currency. Both Logan and Burgess were later arrested and jointly charged with two counts of Drug Trafficking. And in the west, just after eight on Sunday night, Police at a checkpoint in the Central Farm Area on the Western Highway, intercepted a Jeep Cherokee driven by twenty-seven year old Hugo Castaneda. Castaneda was accompanied by twenty-five year old Mason Patnett; both travelling west from Belize City. A search was conducted on the vehicle and in a tire compartment at the rear of the vehicle, a crocus sack containing over sixteen pounds of suspected cannabis was found.
Both Castaneda and Patnett were searched which led to the discovery of one thousand four hundred and twenty-nine dollars and five hundred and seventy respectively. Police have arrested and charged Castaneda and Patnett for Drug Trafficking.
