City and Health Ministry team up for health fair
Today the NICH parking lot was the venue of Health Expo 2007. Organised by the Public Health Department and the Belize City Council, the event included the participation of several service providers including the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and the Belize Red Cross. According to Belize City Councillor Wayne Usher, the expo was designed to educate students of all ages.

“We’ve had it today on a Wednesday to facilitate two groups, the schools and the public at large. The schools because we want the children to get involved from a very early age to get involved in taking care of their own health and we feel that transcends to the adults because if they get the knowledge they could say mom, dad you know we learnt this, we learnt that, pass it on to them, encourage them and they themselves might come out and also take part in the information gathering. Also we have free testing for diabetes, for blood pressure and HIV being done right here, so there’s also a functionality to it where you can get practical things done for your own health.”
Organisers hope to make the Health Expo an annual event.
