Bail given for man who knocked down Bowen employee
A man from Northern Belize who worked at Bowen & Bowen Limited in Ladyville was knocked down and killed on June twenty-third of this year at Mile nine on the Northern Highway. Today, almost three weeks later, the man police say is responsible for his untimely death, forty year old Everal Augustine, was charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Driving without Due Care and Attention and Causing Death by Careless Conduct in the Courtroom of magistrate Hurl Hamilton. This afternoon when Augustine, a resident of Dangriga Town, appeared before Magistrate Hamilton, no plea was taken from him due to the nature of the offense. Bail was granted to him in the sum of five thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. Augustine is to return to court on August twenty-first.

A tragedy, but to his credit the driver apparently did not flee the scene — at least he is not charged with running. I respect a man who stands and takes responsibility for his errors. It’s the Biblical process — admit your error, apologise for it, and try to make good the harm. The world would be a lot better place if everyone followed that rule.
