Since the start of 2012, at least seventeen persons have been freed of murder charges in eleven separate cases. In most instances, the witnesses either develop amnesia or were in fear. Well, the trend continues and the latest murder acquittal came today in the case against Neil Grey, who was accused of fatally shooting twenty-one year old Aaron Thomas Brooks on April third, 2009. Prosecutor Thalia Meagan Francis called the victim’s niece, Shamika Brooks, and sister, Tanya Gentle, to testify before Supreme Court Justice Herbert Lord and a jury of twelve. Brooks was extremely emotional on the stand and started crying. When asked by the prosecutor if she had given police a statement on the death of her uncle, she said yes, but then told the court that she did not want to give evidence in the case because she fears for her life. Gentle’s emotions also got the best of her and the judge granted a five minute break for her to compose herself. But when the trial resumed, she also told the court that she was afraid to testify. Prosecutor Francis conceded that she was unable to prove the five elements of murder and closed her case. Defense attorney for Grey, Senior Counsel Hubert Elrington then made a no case submission and Justice Lord directed the jurors to find Grey not guilty of murder. With that, Grey, who had been on remand for three years, is now a free man. Aaron was shot multiple times to the neck, left leg, left arm, elbow and the lower back while hanging out at his brother Mark’s house on Neal Pen Road. Back then, both his sister and niece had initially given statements to police identifying Grey as the gunman.
I think we all can figure out what happened here, and another dangerous monster is back on the streets. Chances are he will kill again. So I hope he is struck by lightning or encounters some other permanent justice so he can experience what the rest of us fear from the means streets of the Jewel.
Another good argument for vigilante justice until witnesses need not fear for their lives.
This miscarriage of justice continues unabated.Criminal continue to reign the streets,because of laws that protect the criminal and not the innocent populace.Statements should be videotaped,and once videotaped,it should stand officially as part of the judicial process,even if the witness or plaintiff changes their mind.We know for a fact that anybody can can kill someone in Belize and get away witht it easily.You just have to threaten the witness or the family of the witness and you will be acquitted to continue your crime spree.Also,teenagers should be dealt with as an adult in order to stop their crime sprees.What happened to Hard Labour.Whne these animals are convicted,they take it as a vacation.Free food and lodging.what else can you ask for.
Wow that is unbelievable. 17 acquittals for murder for the year 2012. Sooo whats our conviction rate at right now for murder???
What’s next for the most useless judicial system in the world?
This is the problem right here!! We need Victim protection!!! Witness protection!! If we could bring that to fruition, then convictions would start rolling. Once witnesses can produce the necessary evidence, these guys would be shut down.
Again there is no penalty for perjury, charge these people for giving false statement, bet they will reconsider. I understand the fear of being killed so they shut their mouth, but if people band together and say no more and fight back what are they going to do kill everybody. One good is that if history holds true he will kill again or he will be killed.
I will keep this country in my prayers, but the church also need to convene.

Lots of good ideas here, like videotaping testimony and setting up a witness/victim protection program. Also putting people in jail for perjury.
The common people see these things clearly, why are there NO leaders who want to help make our criminal justice system effective????
How about we stop playing games with these guys and start lining them up and be done with these fools let them know that the citizen pay there taxes for a reason I’m only saying god be with my people. a bald fist will strick mighty blow meaning if everybody come together as one we will do wonders
