Flavors of Belize donates 6 stoves to charity

The Flavors of Belize cookbook was launched early this month at a grand cocktail at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza. The event featured several cooking stations where buyers sampled some of the recipes included in the book. For that night, the chefs were working with gas range stoves donated by Brodies and today, Flavors of Belize passed on the kind gesture and donated those stoves to five organizations and a needy family. At the handing over today, News Five spoke to representatives from Flavors of Belize and Brodies as well as one of the recipients.

“Today’s donation really was kind of like part B of our launching event of the cookbook on July third. Brodies was a big sponsor for us and part of the partnership involved the donation of six stoves; one for each live chef station at the launching. So the agreement was that after the event we would donate these stoves to six worthy causes and that’s what we just completed.”

“So how di you choose the charities to give to?”

Tanya McNab

“We partnered with Hand Wash Hand and they did identify four of the recipients and the other two, which was IT-VET and YWCA, we’ve been working very closely with them since our book is all about food. The YWCA Kitchen and the IT-VET Culinary Program, they offered their students for us that night and they gave us a lot of assistance that night as well.”

Delahnie Bain

“Apart from the IT-VET and YWCA, who are the other four recipients?”

Tanya McNab

“The other four recipients are St. Benedict School, Pueblo Viejo R.C. School, Nichole McDougal and family and Central Assembly of God School and most of them, except for the family, they’re all feeding programs at the schools; they’re going towards that.”

“As you know we have a Culinary Arts Program and the students participated in the event that was held earlier this year and I believe that they learnt a lot from the international standard chefs. And so it’s a win-win situation where IT-VET students get an opportunity to work with world class chefs and I guess in that regard, these companies gave a donation to IT-VET Belize.”

Billy Musa Jr., Director, Brodies

“In April of this year, Miss Tanya McNab from McNab Designs and Flavors of Belize approached us to be a part of the Flavors of Belize Cookbook, therefore we decided to donate six stoves to them and in turn they’ve decided to partner with us to donate the stoves to some worthy causes. We’ve been a sponsor in Flavors of Belize magazine; this is a magazine that they had published basically for the hotels and resorts and we were honored and pleased to be a part of the cookbook as well. And yes, we are proud and happy and honored to work with them, they are a very professional company.”
