Police Association and the Ministry clear the air
Tonight, it appears that the dust has settled between the Belize Police Association and the Police Department. On Wednesday, the president of the Association, Corporal Eldon Arzu and its vice president, Sergeant Edlin Lorenzo, appeared before a tribunal where they were arraigned for disrespecting their superiors and for disobeying a command. The two had fallen from grace because they had taken to the airwaves to complain about the hasty transfer of some officers.
But tonight their situation seems to be cleared up because there is word that they will be re-instated. According to reports from Belmopan, a joint release is expected to be issued, which will clear up the air. The two officers are expected to be reinstated, the association is expected to be restored and the tribunal discontinued.
A victory for commonsense and grown-up behaviour.
Such incompetence in this gov. They are like a house of comedy.
2 Comments. One positive and the other negative, as always
The responsibility of these two men Lorenzo and Arzu is to represent the concerns of fellow officers, how can you suspend someone for performing the duties of their office. What I see in these people in government is that they do not like or want to be challenged. The moment someone challenges the status quo, these poor jackasses, feel they are not respected. Respect is earned not demanded.
Clear your head and understand that as a manager, leader you will have challenges that you may not like, so if you can’t stand the heat get your @$$ out of the kitchen.
Challenge is good, especially in Belize, because something has been done for fifty years does not mean it is a good thing. An EDUCATED and SMART manager will make changes, will welcome input to how things can be made better and more efficient.
This is what is wrong in Belize, things are broken and no one has ….. to fix it, because this is how its been done forever. Somethings that worked ten years ago may not be good for today. Is there any forward thinking people in the government who can analytically look at the structure of their area of responsibility and say, ok this is not working, how can we fix it? Wake up, it is not time to sleep, it is time for change.
Please government spend some money or ask for free consultation from a reputable foreign company who can come and teach “Change Management” to your leaders, including the Prime Minister and his people.
I read a report on Belize some time ago and the writer said that when you recommend change, the people take it as a derogatory towards them personally.
Stupid, stupid, stupid, there is always a better way to do something. If you want respect mr boss, make some positive changes in the area of your responsibility and get some earmed respect for a job well done.
In the days of the old you do as the master say if he tells you to jump dont ask how high just jump otherwise you would be victimized. Today equal rights and justice to all regardless of race, color, of superiority. The easiest thing to do is to solve the problem rather than to void. A good result only depend on the quality and decision of a good leader. Be smart commander.
