Leroy Gomez accused many times, but now guilty of rape

Leroy Gomez gained notoriety back in September, 2008 when he was arrested for a series of rapes and attempted rapes. Gomez was quickly dubbed a serial rapist, but he has since managed to beat all those sexual assault charges; he was convicted once but successfully appealed. He was, however, accused of another rape and robbery that occurred in August 2011. That trial ended today when a jury of nine unanimously found him guilty of both charges.  The conviction came this afternoon in the Supreme Court before Justice Adolph Lucas after the victim, a twenty-six year old woman, testified against him last week. She told the court that between five-thirty and six a.m. on August twenty-third, 2011, she was walking on Administration Drive when a man rode past her on a bicycle. He then turned back, approached her from behind and placed a gun at her side, demanding her belongings. According to the woman, the culprit was wearing a handkerchief over his mouth and nose, but she was still able to identify him as Gomez. She says that after giving Gomez, her cell phone and earrings, he ordered her to get on his bicycle handle, which she did. But he could not ride with her so he instead took her into a nearby yard, forced her to remove her clothing and raped her at gunpoint. During the trial, Prosecutor, Triennia Young, also called the victim’s boyfriend, the arresting officer, the investigating officer as well as Dr. Jose Guerra to testify. Gomez was unrepresented, but he took the stand and denied the allegations against him. He also called his mother-in-law as an alibi witness and she told the court that Gomez was with her on the day of the rape. But that was not enough to convince the jury, which found him guilty. Sentencing is set for August third.
