Murdered on his birthday in his home by window shooter

There is another family grieving the loss of a loved one. The second person to be killed on Monday night is Clive Medwood who turned twenty three on Sunday. Medwood was in the comfort of his home listening to music when a gunman fired at him through a window. His mother says he was the backbone of the family. News Five’s Jose Sanchez reports.

Clive Medwood, a Belize Water Service Limited employee lived at number eight Ebony Street.  Medwood was sitting in this couch with his family  at ten-forty-five p.m. when a short male person with dreadlocks was seen tiptoeing outside the home. From this window, the assailant fired several shots inside and mortally wounded Medwood.

“While watching the news between ten to ten-thirty, my son ride come to me on bicycle crying to me saying his brother just get shot and he dead. So I said no, no. Today his birthday and no, that dah noh so. I collapse right in front of my sister gate and C.I.B. pick me up and ker me dah hospital. When I reach deh, ih noh wah make it; ih done gone. Yesterday was his birthday; he complete twenty-three.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“So everyone was celebrating, I’m assuming, thinking about the future?”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“Yes, cause my daughter said last night when ih mi deh deh ih say, “Sis I really noh di feel mi birthday. Today dah mi birthday but I noh really di feel it.” So maybe ih mi done know more or less something mi wah happen.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“Maybe he had a feeling. He worked at BWSL?”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“Yes he work at WASA about almost four years now.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“So he was hard working—home and work.”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“All good worker—ih boss, everybody come greet me saying he is a good worker—hundred percent good worker—no complaints; anything he is willing to do. No complaints about him; somebody very quiet.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“I know it is hard, but can you tell me what your family members told you happened?”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“Well when I reach deh, dehn say, well my daughter said they were sitting in the chair.  He was on the left hand side and the two brothers were on the right hand side in the other chair. He was listening to his music and in the space of that when he heard the shots, he get up to out the radio and when he get up to out the radio, then one of the bullet hit him behind the head and exit through the side; part of the head.”

 

His mother said he was not a troublemaker.

 

Jose Sanchez

“Have you spoken to the police about possible witnesses or suspects?”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“Well apart from what I heard, they didn’t tell me they hold anyone as yet.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“It is not an import question for me, but people like to make associations. So for clarity, you son not involved in a gang?”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“No. From the grow up through this neighborhood, I never see he get into any police hand, any trouble or anything. Even the police dehn weh mi deh deh, most of them say dehn know him as a good person, ih noh have no records nor nothing. So dehn no see weh dah the reason.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“Just a senseless crime.”

“Yeah. Cause the way how I see him; after dehn ker ahn gone do the cat scan and dehn brign him back and dehn say that dehn have to put ahn pan di life machine, I say well ih no wah make it. He is the oldest one they took away.”

 

Jose Sanchez

“I guess unu mi really depend on him too.”

 

Voice of: Sherline Medwood

“Yes, he is like a right-hand apart from his father.”

 

Even with a gunshot to the head, Medwood fought for his life until seven thirty seven this morning. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.

 

In other crime news, a man was stabbed at the corner of Vernon Street and Central American Boulevard on Sunday night. Forty-six year old Dennis Baldwin was having a domestic dispute with his common-law-wife, forty-two year old Paulette Meighan when an unknown man came to her aid and stabbed him on the abdomen. The assailant then fled and Baldwin has been hospitalized.

    Sue this useless pm and gov. They are not doing nothing to curb all the crime in Belize I believe this pm the pay they ya gang members fu kill each other and whoever else they no like get rid of this pm and gov. Before you are next or one of your family members.

    This was the same exact way my cousin was killed three years ago, sitting in his house watching tv , when a coward heartless individual open fire on him and my aunt thru their kitchen window. Mr. Barrow what are u doing for the country, wake up and do what u were call to do for the country. Ten years ago this country was nothing like it is now, what is ur plan to bring it bcak to where it was, stop sleeping and wake up because this look bad on you as the first black prime minister and the country is in shamble. Sorry for ur loss Mrs. Medwood i know exactley what u r going throught.

    I hope the community scours the town to find and arrest the “short man with dreadlocks”. I’m sure someone who has heard these reports knows who the killer is, and those people need to call police or Crimestoppers for the good of the whole country.
