Med students’ fatal crash
Loss of life over the weekend was not only confined to criminal elements in shootouts. Three Indian nationals were involved in a Northern Highway accident that claimed the life of one man. The three men in their early twenties are all medical students studying in Belize who were heading to Corozal town on Saturday morning. According to the police the deceased, identified as twenty one year old Jayandra Jahhar was found fifty six meters from the sport utility vehicle between miles seventy and seventy one.

“We had a fatal traffic accident on Saturday, the fourth of August. Police responded to a scene between miles seventy and seventy-one on the Northern Highway in Santa Clara Village, where in a cane field they saw a black Isuzu Rodeo with license plate, BZC-26926 with extensive damages. About fifty-six feet away from the vehicle, they saw the motionless body of an Indian descent male person later identified as Jayandra Jahhar, twenty-one year old Indian medical student of Los Lagos, Ladyville Village. Initial investigations reveal that at about seven a.m., Prandeep Kumar, I think it is Saikia, nineteen years old Indian medical student also of Los Lagos, was driving this Isuzu Rodeo when upon reaching that location lost control of the vehicle which caused it to flip several times and ended up in the cane field. Jahhar was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Corozal Hospital. The driver, Prandeep Kumar Saikia is detained still pending charges. Hopefully charges will be levied against him today.”

rodeo has bad crash ratings, flip ratings
People, people, people. It is not our roads, it is the drivers. Now come on. Would you allow some one with a name like Hop Chengu or Pashtu Ricewani to be your driver? Of course not! And may I ask why? Asians are the world’s worst drivers. They have no sense of timing, distance or danger.

Uncle Benji there is some truth to what you said but there is also much wrong not to mention generally what you said is not politically correct.
Here is what was wrong: 1) there is much wrong with the raods in Belize. I know because I build roads in the US. We do not have the technology like the US but better could be done with what we have. 2) A persons name have nothing to do with their driving ability just his experience level. Asians just are more accustum to riding bicycle until they come west.

One more point, The body was flung far from the vehicle, meaning he was not wearing a seatbelt. How could a future doctor be so foolish? Seatbelts save lives, and failing to wear one is like playing Russian roulette.
I have travelled a lot, and Belize is one of the scariest and most dangerous roads to drive.imagine doing 80-90- miles per hour on a 2 lane road , no median , no painted lines. no signs, no check point( real ones that check tires and brakes and lights). Belize roads are deadly.
My condolences to all families involved in this tragic ACCIDENT.No matter what their chosen profession or ethnic background it’s a sad youthful tragedy. I’m sure the driver did not set out to have his friend die this way. Remember what we were like at that age carefree and full of life. A little more dearing perhaps. It was an accident, don’t add fuel to the fire. I’m sure the survivors are suffering with sadness.
A colleague was one of the first ones on the scene. My understanding is that a tire blew causing the loss of control of the vehicle. Very tragic event. The students were here in Belize because they hoped to make a difference, Very sad.
Lets face it , Belize roads are alleys. I drove on those roads every time I vacation and this these roads are make no mistake roads. I have a feeling that the police made a mistake in saying hopefully:)…..
Jayendra was a very good frnd of mine. I am not sure whether the driver was drunk or not. If he was it was his mistake completely. As far as i knw belize roads r very deadly.
