…and Kolbe allegedly not fit for medical treatment of detained persons

Since she was arrested and charged on August thirtieth, Calaney Flowers has been remanded at the Central Prison. That’s nothing unusual for persons charged with murder, but Flowers is a lupus patient and Saldivar says the Kolbe Foundation’s medical facility is not equipped for her treatment regimen. According to Saldivar, there must be some consideration for inmates and persons on remand who have serious health conditions.

“I do appreciate the limitations that the people at Kolbe have to operate under; I do respect what is being done and what they try to do to accommodate persons who are either on remand or in custody. But my concern is not only for the health of my clients but for the health of other inmates who are being housed at Kolbe at this time. It is known that the medical facilities at the Kolbe are not of the best—they do not have a full-time staff that is fully trained to deal with some of the diseases and medical issues may arise and there are some particular ones that my clients are suffering and are inflicted with. In particular, Miss Calaney Flowers is a lupus patient. Lupus is a degenerative disease that requires frequent blood transfusions, it affects her ability to maintain her energy levels, it basically can cause her to go into shock, convulsions and different things as a result of the stress that she is under. And it must be known that being incarcerated is a stressful situation for anyone and even more for someone who is suffering from lupus.

In relation to Miss Melonie Coye, she had gone into an unconscious state as a result of her diabetic condition. And didn’t have any medical staff to look after her; just by the grace of god she got assistance from the warden or prison officer who was around and an inmate who assisted; but it could have ended up something more than just a temporary state of unconsciousness.

We have the situation of Mike Coye, who had prior been diagnosed with hepatitis C which is a very communicable and deadly disease, not only for him, but also for persons who may come into contact with any bodily fluids emanating from him. The likelihood of that contact was made real when in the past week, Mister Mike Coye was suffering from acute diarrhea to the point that it affected the holding cell that he was in and escaped that cell to the downstairs part of the tango area that he was in. so they had to evacuate and clean.”
Sorry, I’m not sympathetic to the claimed medical situations of criminals. Public safety and keeping them in custody to stand trial is paramount to their problems. It seems every crafty criminal can concoct some medical ailment to escape custody — the Lockerbie bomber from Libya did it, Mubarak in Egypt tried it, Noriega from Panama tried it, the rogues’ gallery goes on and on.
If a person is healthy enough to commit a serious crime, he/she is healthy enough to be locked down for it.
It’s the law: if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.
She should of think of her sickness before doing the crime. Its jail not a five star hotel. Please come with another excuse.!!!
Who cares about thei rights they didn’t care about the destruction they left behind when they murdered people come on saldivar can’t you get another job these people deserve anything they get no special previledges for murderers.
lol-he now tries to look sad and appeal to sympathy and cant play by the rules-how stupid can you be to piss of the prison officials by sneaking phone into jail when you know that as an ambulance chaser-all your clients would likley be there in future and would need to cooperate with them again sometime?
Adult diabetes is generally caused by lousy diet. Maybe in prison these people, who ate themselves into poor health, will be on a better diet to get diabetes under control. Maybe prison will save their lives; they should be thankful to be there.
