Family desperate for Jones’ return

Shilpa says her father was very “old fashioned” and didn’t carry a cell phone. That means he had no way to contact anyone for help when he was left on the road side after eleven o’clock at night. And while the Jones family says the Customs Department is assisting them with the search, Shilpa believes it didn’t have to come to this point.

“What happened, he is very stubborn, he is very old fashion and he’s like I don’t want that, I don’t want that. So what we do is he has the number—our home phone number in his pocket book and it also has the number for credit that if he gets to a phone and the person doesn’t have credit, they can put in the credit and have him call home. That’s the best I could have done for him being that he is so stubborn.”

“But he didn’t contact you all that night.”

“No, he hasn’t contacted us since.”

“And it’s not like him to just not come home?”

Shilpa Jones

“No, whenever he is going to take a trip—because they go different places; they go to Stann Creek, they go to Corozal—whenever he goes on a trip he would contact my mom before and on that day, he didn’t even come home for lunch. I guess he went to eat and went straight back to work and at four o’clock he left because the way mom does it, if it’s a trip that’s going to be that late, she tells him outright no, come home, you don’t need to do that. So I don’t know.”

“So can you describe him for us?”

“Okay, my dad is about five feet, eight maybe nine inches tall; he is dark complexion, he was wearing a white guayabera with a black pants, his hair is cut low. He is hypertensive and he’s slightly diabetic so that’s the thing that’s worrying me because he needs to take his medication. Just a little courtesy would go a long way. I mean it’s very heart breaking to know that my father was sitting out there until two-thirty waiting. If they had said Mr. Jones, I will bring you home, your family has to pay for gas or Mr. Jones let me drop you off at the police station, or Mr. Jones come and stay with me for the night and I’ll drop you home. I mean it just hurts to know that he was sitting there waiting for a bus that probably never came. That’s the thing that’s hurting me; that’s the thing that hurts.”
