Tainted peanut butter recalled from shelves
It’s a popular food–especially with children–but if you have any peanut butter in your cupboard, you’d do well to go have a look at it. What you should be checking for are the brands Peter Pan or Great Value. According to Belizean health authorities and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration a certain amount of these two brands may be tainted with salmonella bacteria that will make you sick if you eat it. The bad batch can be identified by looking at the lid of the jar where you’ll find the product code. If this code begins with the number 2111 then do not open the jar. Instead, take it back to where you purchased it, where the shopkeeper is obligated to give you a refund. Health authorities in Belize estimate that approximately three hundred cases of suspect peanut butter have been brought into the country by three different importers. Stocks have been removed from the store shelves of major supermarkets, but some smaller shops may still be selling. Some of the jars have been sold around the country and six people have been reported with salmonella poisoning. Again, the recall applies only to Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter with a product code on the lid beginning with 2111.
