P.U.P. calls on government to address economic issues
This Wednesday, a thirty day grace period for a missed coupon payment of the five hundred and fifty four million dollar super bond is due. Up to news time there not been word from the government and the Debt Review team on whether the payment will be met but there are reports that government has worked out a deal, thus the reason for next week’s special sitting. The Prime Minister returns to the country on Wednesday when it is expected that some pronouncement will be made. The opposition, however, is asking questions. In a release today it questions what progress the team has made, what specific changes have been agreed to in respect of the indicative scenarios and what progress if any has been made with the former owners of B.T.L. and B.E.L. on the question of compensation for the acquisition of the companies. According to the opposition, “After fifty-three months in office, it is time for the U.D.P. administration to be held accountable for the state of Belize’s economy and to say clearly to the Belizean people what their plan is to attract investment, create jobs, grow the economy, and lower the cost of living. The Belizean people and economy are in crisis and the P.U.P. calls on this U.D.P. government to immediately address these questions and concerns.”
Don’t worry barrow so smart he can govern from Texas everything is great in Belize the economy is doing fine crime is fine everything is honkydory in the country udp is doing a wonderful job hip hip hurray fu udp and barrow.
The problem with our “leaders,” both UDP and PUP, is that they believe it is government’s role to “create jobs” and “grow the economy,” which in practice always means take private money and dish it out to political cronies and family. Today Gapi Vega is the poster boy of that approach, just like Ralph Fonseca was before him. We can all name almost every other politician in recent memory to add to that roster of infamy.
No government on Earth has ever done a better job than private industry — free enterprise, in other words — at creating productive jobs, and that is what increases national prosperity.
Limit government to providing physical security, education, and a basic medical safety net, and let everyone keep the rest of their money and decide how to invest it. That approach will be the key to letting Belizeans provide for their own prosperity and financial security.
The PUP should address the arrogant and disrespectful behavior of Julius Espat!
I like his fire but there are better ways to express yourself other than acting like you dont have any sense!
For tomorrow’s news: “PUP calls on government to address crime issues – the reintroduction of capital punishment.” PUP members, I’m standing with you on this one.
@B Julius Espat can act anyway he wants to act that civilized decorum will allow as long as he doesn’t hit another member of the House on the nose. you see Mr. B, we in Belize are still under this colonial mentality that we have to behave in a certain way to gain the approbium of the queen. But times have changed, I hope, and bravo to Julius. He is making his point and i hope you too Mr. make your point(s) in life. You see, the earth has its boundaries but only human stupidity is limitless. Lesson to be learnt : let julius act the way he wants to act and don’t try to limit him.
Barrow, Faber, Boots and the rest did much more harm when in oppostion. They played a role in the riot that occurred at Albert street that had begun at Belcan bridge. They also ignited the protest outside the house. They were also much more vocal in the house.
PUP should call out the GOB to see what is going on. Is it today that Belize will not pay its debt. By the looks of it its more of a yes.
