SJC’s tribute to George Price
At SJCJC, Global Minds paid a tribute to the late father of the nation through a display of pictures and screening of an interview. The student club hopes that the youngsters take away something from the tribute.
Tiffany Hope, Events Coordinator, Global Minds
“We are doing a tribute for the life of George Price, here. As you can see behind me, we have different displays with pictures of him and it’s basically to inform the student body and teachers about George Price and what he has done for the country and who he is.”
Andrea Polanco
“How important do you think it is for young people to understand the whole concept of peaceful revolution, one which George Price introduced to the nation?”
Tiffany Hope
“I think it is very important, because as a teacher of young children at primary school, we teach them the basic about George Price; who he was and the father of the nation and basic things about him but there is lot more that we don’t know about him and this is our way of letting the student body know, by viewing the pictures and the interview, they get to know who he really was than other than being called the father of the nation.”
Stanley Grinage, English Lecturer & Moderator Global Minds
“It is of course a way for our students to show an appreciation of our history and the understanding of how far we’ve come and understanding nationalism and our fight for that is what I think our young people should show some interest in. Having this display, it highlights George Price and understanding who we are and where we’ve come from.”
Andrea Polanco
“Now, what do you think the students took away from this experience today?”
“Well, I hope that they understand who George Price is and his legacy still exist and that at the same time they still feel that patriotic feeling that we’ve been through and are still feeling. Also that at the end of the day, I really hope that they can continue to live our culture and that they can continue to tell their own children about what exists today and make them better historian and better Belizeans at the end of the day.”
The tribute remains open on Friday.
There has never been a Prime Minister like George Price. This man was truly a man for the people. Many people are home owneres today becasue George Price made it possible for them. I pray that God raise up another man or woman with a clean heart and a pure mind for the country and the people. Someone who is not after wealth just for themself but to improve the lives of the people. The Bible says that when the right man is ruling over a country the people are happy. I pray that this be the future of my country.
RIP Prisho. We need leaders like you to lead Belize in the right direction. Thank You for your dedication and Service to Belize.
The Great Man must be turning in his grave to see the mess that the Jewel is today. In a mere 21 years since independence, crooked and incredibly stupid leaders have buried us in debt with almost no public good to show for it, driven away honest investment, opened the borders to terrorists and drug cartels, maximized unemployment in the nation, put gangsters on the public payroll, and slaughtered hope.
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
