Neighbor gained access to minor through her window
In the lower court, twenty nine year old Ladyville resident, Kenroy Betancourt, a Security Guard was convicted of aggravated assault of an indecent nature upon a fourteen year-old girl who knew him well. The conviction was before the Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith, where Betancourt was sentenced to three years in prison. Betancourt entered the bedroom of a fourteen year-old girl on July tenth, 2011 and whilst she was sleeping he began to fondle her. The minor testified in camera that she was sudden awakened by the touch of someone and that’s when she open her eyes and saw Betancourt, her neighbor. The girl says she began to scream and that’s when her brother came to her aid and set chase after Betancourt, who managed to escape. Because Betancourt lives not too far from the home of the girl, and she knew him well, she was able to identify him to police. In his defense, Betancourt denied the allegations and told the court, “It wasn’t me.” He said that he was at home drinking with his brother, who was called to testify and corroborated his story. While his brother claimed he and Betancourt were at home drinking, he also told the court that he watched his brother fall asleep. Betancourt, it is said, gained entry into the girl’s room by climbing through her window. The Prosecutor in the case was Inspector, Carol Tucker.
Is this yet another case of people acting stupidly and criminally when they drink too much? At least he has a three year rest period to sober up.
Thank you Inspector Carol Tucker!
