Guatemalan convicted for keeping a prohibited firearm and ammunition

Ismael Antonio Moran Enriquez

In the court today, Ismael Antonio Moran Enriquez was convicted by Magistrate Linsbert Willis for keeping a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Moran is a Guatemalan national who caused a ruckus at the western border back in May when he was found in possession of a firearm, but there was hesitation by the Commissioner of Police to press charges against him. Nonetheless, Moran was charged by Customs officers for carrying a point forty five Colt pistol with ten live rounds. The Magistrate today sentenced him to three years on each charge to be served consecutively. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, prosecuted the case and attorney Arthur Saldivar appeared on behalf of Moran.

Once there is a good prosecutor on the other side Arthur loses. He will now dial to the media about some nonsense why he lost

Hooray for Magistrate Willis. The sentence can be an example to foreigners who feel privileged to walk around illegally armed in the Jewel. A .45-cal is a serious cannon, larger than any Belizean can possess. Until I know otherwise, I choose to assume he works in the drug trade, and I would happily hang all drug traffickers.

I’ve heard many times that when someone is charged and convicted for multiple offenses, even if he’s a repeat offender, will serve concurrently. It has been a long time that someone is sentenced to serve consecutively. My hope is that from now on all convicted rapists, robbers, illegal firearm and ammunition possessors, etc. are to sentence & serve their terms consecutively INSTEAD OF concurrently.
