Tour guide dies in explosion on San Pedro
An explosion at Amigos Del Mar dock in San Pedro Town claimed the life of a well known San Pedro tour guide. Hector “Chapin” Duran was killed when a dive tank exploded at around four-thirty this afternoon. According to witnesses, the explosion happened inside a partially enclosed area on the far end of the dock. It has not been ascertained what caused the tank filled with compressed oxygen to blow up and at this time as fire officials and police continue to process the scene. Duran suffered massive trauma and died on the spot. His body has since been transferred to the K.H.M.H. for a post mortem examination.
The investigation should look at the tank inspection dates.
See when the tank was last visually inspected “This should be done yearly”
See when was the tank last Hydro statically tested “this should be done every 5 years”.
These two tests are crucial to ensure that tanks are safe to take the pressure of 3000 PSI commonly used in scuba diving.
A correction is that scuba tanks do not have pure oxygen, its contents are normal air.
so sad,,,,hope he rests in peace. he was a great guy.

(the Coastal express water taxi operates from the same pier, 4.30pm there is a water taxi leaving that pier which typically includes quite a few school children – Thank God….this could of been a larger disaster)
well, well my dear you should know why god did not made any of us a sea creature, because he do not wants us to be in the ocean it’s a discovery for no one to know what’s under the big blue sea but it’s also sad that he died in an explotion so damm painful witness will have a lot of fear from what had happend. “REST in PEACE” sah. comming from a 9 year old.
