National Security says residents will get most of their demands

Within hours that the demonstration fizzled, government was quick to act and with the speed of light, a promised pickup truck was delivered to the San Ignacio police. The new pickup comes as part of a pledge made by the Ministry of National Security to meet the demands of the people. While the vehicle is the first of two for that formation C.E.O. George Lovell told the media today that the ministry has also acquired a ballistics testing system, known as IBIS, which will be handed over on Friday.

“The integrated ballistic identification system and we already have that. The second is that of DNA and it is my hope that with the work that we are currently doing that we will see this particular discipline up and running in a very short time. We currently have discussions with our friends from the United States Government where we have agreement for them to have assigned to us and assigned to our National Forensic Science Services a DNA expert who will operate in two ways. The first will be for that individual to provide mentorship, the necessary training to all our local forensic specialists; and secondly, for him to provide that expert requirement that is needed in court for all the cases that involved DNA evidence. So it will be twofold—training and building capacity for us and also for providing us here in Belize with someone who can go in the court and testify based on DNA evidence. I believe if we have that; that will help to strengthen the whole aspect of prosecution and conviction in our cases and we will not have to rely too much on having human evidence or people actually showing up as witness. We all know about the challenges we have in that area where people feel that they have fear for their lives if they would show up as witnesses. So we are hoping that that will help in that regard.”
The PM promised to immediately provide additional resources, implement a sexual offenders registry and monitoring system; ensure proper enforcement of the laws governing denial of bail in cases of sexual and other serious offences; fast-track the efforts with the Government of the United States to finalize arrangements for an expert in DNA Science and strengthen the Police Prosecution branch.
Prime Minister, the nation is watching you & waiting to see what pledges will be fulfilled or if this is just more bluster & bull.
What a big farce you must the joke you the let in hundreds of illegals including terrorist in the country and you the talk bout you wa do this and that when you can’t even do your own bloody job in fact you should be put in jail for incompetence why is their no one in jail for selling passports why is their no one in jail you should be the first one going to jail for incompetence along with the other ministers who are involved in all the corruption going on in this gov. Am telling you cayo people you need to start hanging these people unu self this gov. Is useless look at how many murders have gone un solved hundreds and then they are telling you that you are at fault .
I am so encouraged with what I am hearing. Finally we are getting the help from the united states necessary to move forward in the fight against crime. Now we need to staff with competent people. We need people who will be dedicated to getting proper results, not easily bought or intimidated and not only see the job as a paycheck, but is resuslts oriented. All the equipment and training in the world won’t make a difference if the staffing is wrong. I see a first step in the right direction. Mr Lovell, stay the course Sir.
I want to know, why did it take the Cayo residence protest and demands to get the registry initiative. Why do we have CEO’s and Ministers in these positions, if not to do some critical thinking to come up with these solutions a long time ago. Is it truely that the people have to be innovative for them too? What are they doing during Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm? Where is the Minister of National Security? What is wrong with these people who are collecting tax payers money to work for this country. This is insane and I am disappointed that we have to think for these people too, I am disappointed that Mr. Elrington did not show up with sollutions to discuss. He showed up in a diffensive manner, we are not paying them to defend themsleves, to fight with us, to defend their partry; we are paying them to defend the people and to represent the people. Did they forget that they were elected by the people, for the people and of the people?????
I agree with Young Gial, we need critical thinkers in our government. Critical thinking does not begin when there is a problem, although it is needed at that time also. Critical thinking is something that necessary everday especially once these people get into office and get an understanding of the state of the union. Elected officials should know what in the country is broken and needs fixing, and plans outght to be made in various stages.What is the most critical and what is the cause, because without understanding the cause, you can’t fix the problem. Then devise short term and long term goals to repair the broken places.
The government of Belize is a reactionary government, and even when there is an emergency, it seems like they run and hide. I believe Elrington is an attorney by profession, he probably has never taken a class in leadership. This government people all need to hire some training and development firm to come in and teach them how to think caritically,how to develop business plans that address the issues and identify the planned solution.
I would lay you bets there is no such a thing in existense. A country cannot be run without identifying short term and long term goals for sustaining the country. Of course there will be emergencies, but it is so much easier to handle emergencies when plans are in place to take care of the other existing problems, and every one in governent don’t have to run and hide when the people need them to act.

Al is right, GOB never looks ahead and plans, it only reacts to the last crisis and puts a bandage on it. Running a country is too hard for our leaders.
