Sedi no ready; Cayo residents walk out Elrington’s meeting

Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington

Attorney General, Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, was deployed to San Ignacio on Wednesday night to cool down temperatures of residents, who have been protesting a recent upsurge in crime and violence in the Cayo District. The crowd overflowed the ITVET building where the public meeting was being held. Among the topics covered, were the removal of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the introduction of forensics in crime solving, as well as the construction of a police station in neighboring Santa Elena.  It started orderly but soon deteriorated and what should have been a productive discussion on measures to reduce the violence, ended up in a walkout as the minister spoke.  The Cayo residents filed out of the meeting hall, prompted by Elrington’s remarks. Here’s what happened Wednesday night and the damage control by the C.E.O. in the Ministry of National Security, Retired Colonel George Lovell that followed this morning.

George Lovell

Ret. Col. George Lovell, C.E.O., Ministry of National Security

“We had the discussion with the solidarity movement for justice in San Ignacio and it was done in a public forum or meeting.  The discussion didn’t really go the way I would have liked to see it go, in that the matter of the DPP, in my opinion, took center stage and that taking center stage took most of the time that we, or my ministry would have liked to use to discuss the petitions that were made and any other questions that would have arisen there from.  Unfortunately, it went the way it went and I was not really satisfied with it, the way it went.  I think there were a number of decisions that were made by the Government of Belize to provide for the petitions that were made but we were unable to effectively get those points across to the general public.  And that’s the reason why I called in some of those media houses this morning to try and explain some of the things that I couldn’t explain during that meeting.”

Belizean this thug so called sedi, stole a multimillion land deal in progresso from an american investor, do not believe a word from his rotten and smelly mouth, his mouth is like a garbage hole, nothing good comes out from it.

Dean Barrow and his team are all thugs

  2. nigel says:

This a$$ clown echos the incompitence of his political party. I am sure the P.M could have eloquently lied to the people of San Ignacio and Santa Elena had he came to the meeting himself… oh that’s right the only time this slick talking con man has anything to say is when money is involved i.e BEL, BTL or the oil industry. Mr. Prime Minister for all the inteligence you claim to have you are so narrow minded and blinded by the almighty dollor that you fail to realize that future tax payers of this country are being genocidally wiped out. You may not live to steal their tax dollars but think of your poor children they need to steal too.

Santi Clause (aka Sedi the Grinch that stole our respect) you have officially made us look like tree swinging, sh@t slinging, have no sense in our heads fools for letting the world (who ever was watching) know what kind of kindergarten drop out we have representing us. It is disquieting to know that you are our defence against Guatemala. Please Mr.Otto Perez Molina (Guatemalan President) take us now, save us from these dumb a$$e$$ that govern us!!!

  3. Rod says:

I told you all this is one useless pm and gov. They will do nothing for the people of Belize these murderers will get off and they will rape nd kill again when you have no solutions to a problem this is what you do you pretend you care well the whole country needs to shut down for a week then kick out this pm and gov. Because they are the most useless incompetent and corrupt pm and gov. In the history of this nation the country is sinking into quicksand under this pm and gov.

  4. cayobway says:

the folks in cayo shuold have thrown this bald head fool over the edge of the hawksworth bridge
for taking them for fools, why did the prime minister not go to cayo himself? hell his wife is from there, apperently he does not really care.,

  5. nesher says:

i’m not surprised the ppl in san ignacio/santa elena walked out on the AG, he talks to dem as if speaking to rude children instead of adults….perhaps he shud get off his high horse b4 he falls down

  6. BELIZEAN says:

    HE NO REDI!

  7. alley cat says:

Sedi is so out of touch. I don’t blame the people for walking out, his behavior was so condescending. Then to make it about him, to say that he deals with more murders in his division; how inappropriate. Think of that at a time when the community is grieving and looking for real answers. This man needs to be put in a corner on a time-out like a child.

  8. Stand Up says:

That’s all on this story? Huh! A whole heck of a lot MORE happened in the meeting. The dissing remarks and disgraceful attitude of the AG to the people of Cayo. There’s lots of energy brewing there. Why not harnass that energy and direct it in a positive direction? Why not affirm the people of Cayo for coming together and pledge to do everything you can to assist them? The AG said “you have had FOUR murders and all of this noise, well I live in one of the WORST areas of the City where we have gun shots every day! You should be thankful…” What? I can’t believe he said that!! Is that any consolation to the activated & outraged people of Cayo? You lost them right there Mr. Elrington!! First, that means your area is the WORST and nothing has changed under your leadership, and does that mean Cayo has a LONG ways to go until they stoop to that level? My goodness gracious, if a politician EVER shot himself in the foot, it was THEN!! And you turned it around and put the blame BACK onto the people?? “This is happening because of YOU PARENTS, and YOU TEACHERS…” Mr. Elrington, you are unbelievable, literally… You cudda said the same thing in a different way and have the end result POSITIVE. But instead, you came out of that meeting covered in your own MUD!! PM, this man needs a good lashing. Leadership failure, political failure, security failure, bad all the way around, and it cudda been different. The protest that happened wasn’t angry against the Govt. It was angry against CRIME & VIOLENCE and the seeming inability to take action against it! But if the Leaders don’t listen and work with the people, IT WILL TURN INTO AN ANGRY MOVEMENT AGAINST THE GOVT!! And it would be your own fault for mismanaging this! This is people who are wanting to take back their city!! The most Neighbourhood Watch networks in that city than the whole rest of Belize!! Mr. AG, you dissed the wrong people!!

  9. Rocket says:

Sedi if a fool. all he does is wrong. i wonder how he got the job to be in the ministry.

  10. Cayo blood says:

Sedi came all the way to Cayo to insult us, he claims he and all his brothers and sisters are lawyers and doctors, but they all studied on Government scholarships, paid for by taxpayers moneys, all the projects he have in Pickstock, all paid for by taxpayers money, just for pickstock hehas a police station with 3 vehicles at all times, and he comes here to say goverment can’t do anything for the entire Cayo District. I think he should apologize to all Cayo residents for his insults and his behavoir.

  11. roska says:

This time I hate to admit it but I partly agree with sedi…..
No demonstration… torch run…. superpolice dept….new DPP….or anything else we could naively conceive will stop crime until WE THE CITIZENS STOP CREATING CRIMINALS AT HOME, AND UNTIL WE ARE OUR NEIGHBOURS KEEPERS!!!!

We want the police to be more proactive… but yet when they rough up the vulgar thugs from our community we call the media and the ministers and HOLLER LIKE CRYBABIES.. POLICE BRUTALITY!!! Looks like we want them to rather to look for the murderers rather than prevent them from becoming murderers….

I sympathize with the residents of Cayo…but we must keep our feet on the ground and face reality… the Judiciary is only as strong as its community…. let’s report crime, lets burn down the crackhouses… root out the gangs from our neighborhoods…. and if necessary shoot down the criminals when they are committing a crime….THEN WE PRACTISE THE CODE OF SILENCE… THAT IRONICALLY WE OFTENLY USE IN FAVOUR OF THE CRIMINALS…

LET’S START DOING SOMETHING TRULY MEANINGFUL AGAINST CRIME…. WHEN WILL PEOPLE REALIZE THAT WE HAVE THE POWER TO DO IT…..??? INSTEAD OF DEMONSTRATIONS SAVE YOUR ENERGY TO HUNT DOWN THE CRIMINALS… WE ALREADY KNOW WHO THEY ARE…… LET’S STOP PLAY POSSUM…

  12. Concerned woman says:

shame on Elrington indeed…..blame the parents, teachers?????????what a disrespect!!! So what have you to say about the government who took tax paying dollars, grants BTL or BEL monies…..wherever it came from to pay gang bangers in the city????what do you call that…..shame on you fool…then you want to disrespect the citizenry of Cayo!!NO YA!

  13. roska says:

One good point put forward… a true forensic lab…..
According to my records a forensic lab BUILDING (that was empty) was inagutated by the PUP before they were kicked out from office….. they were more interested in putting the plaque on it rather than have it working…. then the UDP came into office and they also WERE NOIT INTERESTED IN HAVING IT WORKING….!!!

Cmon people wake up…. BOTH PUP AND UDP ARE RUN BY LAWYERS…. WHOSE LAW FIRMS MAKE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TAKING MURDERERS OFF THE HOOK IN TYHE COURTS…. A FULLY EQUIPPED FORENSIC LAB IS NOT BENEFICIAL TO THEM!!!!

We the people are to blame for putting into government politicians that are lawyers….. CRIME IS A BIG BUSINESS TO BOTH THE PUP AND UDP!!!

  14. Common Sense says:

a god-like complex, yet proven completely inept – again. This is the man put forward to represent Belize at the highest levels – United Nations etc. Yet unaware that he is a representative of the people for the people.

Honourable Sedi – listen (ie close your mouth, open your ears) to the people. You are not a dictator, king or god. Nobody wants to know what YOU think……we are telling you what we want you to do as our employee.

If you will not listen and consider what the people want – then resign now.

  15. Bear says:

I’M FOR MORE AND MORE PROTESTS AND STRIKES. Keep it up Cayo, and let it spread through the Jewel.

  16. concern citizen says:

His new name is “SEDI NOH READY. What an awful way to represent the government. That is the way they always look down on people, if you are not one of them you can’t get nothing done, you have to go through all the red tape and get things done the hard way. That is the way it alway was ” DA NOH WHEY YU KNOW, DA WHO YU KNOW.

  17. Tanya says:

SO THIS MEANS ALL BELIZEANS HAVE TO EXPECT AND LIVE LIKE IN BELIZE CITY BEACUSE CRIME IN BELIZE CITY SETS THE BAR FOR THE REST OF THE POPULATION.. THERE ARE BELIZEANS THAT DO SET GOOD EXAMPLES TO THEIR CHILDREN WORK HARD, HAVE TWO JOBS, PAY TAXES ETC… AND THEY DESRVE NO SECURITY OR HAVE TO STOOPP TO THE LEVEL OF BELIZE CITY IN TERMS OF CRIME AND DESERVE THE SAME LEVEL OF SECURITY AS THE THUGS WHO KILL AND DO NOT WORK AND CONTRIBUTES NOTHING TO SOCIETY…. SIMPLY UNBELIEVABLE.. IF GOVERNMENT OFFICAL THINKS THAT WAY NO WONDER OUR COUNTRY IS THE WAY IT IS….

  18. Jojo says:

All I have to say is:
What else can you expect from a HOG but a GRUNT.
Sad to say, but Belize is suffering from IIHP Syndrome (Idiots In High Places) and this fellow has a serious infection. In fact, the whole cabinet seems to be infected!!
We are !%C#ED guys, no light at the end of the tunnel

  19. Nimbo says:

Barrow must have dictated a full 4 pages of “tongue lashing” for the Cayo people. He must have thought he will get away with it like the fools they are and appear when at the cabinet meeting….well to you all- Cayo no want to hear none ah your garbage. If you no ready fu we- with real constructive and reasonable solutions- SAVE IT!

We are beyond promises- we no wah hear no sweet promises like u all come around doing round election time. Remember, WE PUT YOU THERE AS PEOPLE SERVANTS! I know Barrow no wah hear that..lol he is an arrogant one but..come down to earth Mr PM- you are the People’s Servant and you know what- it does not have to take election time to bring you down. Start thinking bout that. Start educating yourself and your ministers when they next address a crowd who has the guts and….. to stand up and DEMAND better from their government.

IF you are unable to fulfill the job demands..admit it man..you will not be chastised- just resign. For your sake and for the sake of our Belize- just resign.

  20. Smashing2u says:

I do agree with the comments. Remove the parties in power wether PUP or UDP if they steal. Everyone with good values knows, you don’t let theives into your home, so why do you let them run your country. Belize is your home, appoint people with good christian values not corrupt people who lie, steal and murder. The impact of government actions hurts poor honest Belizean citizens who work so hard for a living. Try building proper homes, provide proper medical care, create a society that the world can say that the people of belize are educated. Each of us God has given a task to do, make the most of it and help the less fortunate.

The problem with poverty and crime is when politicians give you a can of paint or a piece of land for your vote; that action alone should speak for itself. Why would you vote if you know their family history of being a thief. Yes they will give you something but take more for themself.

    Protest and vote them out!

  21. WESTERNMERMAID says:

ALL THE FRIGGIN POLITICIAN DAH THE SAME, THOSE MADA !@#$%^&, THIEVING !@#$%^&,
PUP DAH LONE MADA !#%% THEY NEVER DID TRY ARREST SOMEBODY FOR THE MURDERS, RAPE AND MUTILATIONS OF ALL THOSE LITTLE GIRLS FROM BELIZE CITY WHEN THEY WERE IN POWER, NO ONE ARRESTED MUCH LESS CONVICTED, NOW THESE OTHER MADA !@## UDP THE PLAY BALL, FRIGGIN CRAZY POLITICOS, HELL NO, BLOODY GOB GIVE THE PEOPLE WANT THEY WANT, WE WANT JUSTICE, HANG THE MURDERERS WHO RAPE AND KILL, HANG THEM.

THAT IS WHY I WOULD NEVER VOTE PUP NOR UDP, ALL OF THEM ARE A SET OF CLOWN.
UNTIL WE GET PEOPLE THAT REALLY CARE FOR THE PEOPLE THEM I WILL THINK ABOUT VOTING.

  22. drose flowers says:

MY CONDOLENCES TO ALL THOSE MOTHERS WHO MOURN THE MURDER OF THEIR CHILDREN, IT SO SAD BELIZE HAS REACH TO THIS POINT WHERE THERE IS NO RESPECT FOR THE LIVES OF OUR PEOPLE, SOMETIMES I WONDER HOW CAN A MURDERER SLEEP AT NIGHT? HOW CAN HE EAT AND LIVE IN PEACE? BRING ME TO ANOTHER QUESTION. DID THE PARENTS NEVER TEACH THEM RESPECT, VALUES, MORALS??
I AGREE THAT BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES ARE IMPOTENT ON CRIME, THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT, I JUST HOPE THAT SOMETHING BE DONE NOW TO BRING BACK PEACE IN THIS COUNTRY.
I APPLAUD THE EFFORT OF THE PEOPLE IN THE WEST, WISH THE PEOPLE FROM ORANGE WALK MY TOWN WOULD BECOME VOCAL LIKE THE CAYOANS.

MY ONLY CONCERN IS THIS, IF WE ARE TRYING TO ELIMINATE ALL FORM OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY, WHETHER IT BE VERBAL, PHYSICAL OR EMOTIONAL, WHY IS IT THAT SOME OF THE UB STUDENTS ACTED WITHOUT RESPECT FOR THE MINISTER? I AGREE THAT WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THEM, BUT THE UB STUDENTS WERE ATTACKING THE MINISTER IN A PERSONAL MANNER, I THINK THAT IS WHERE SOME OF THE UB STUDENTS FAIL, YOU DON’T GAIN RESPECT BY INSULTING PEOPLE, YOU GAIN RESPECT BY RESPECTING OTHERS, IT IS OK TO VOICE YOUR CONCERN, BUT WHEN YOU TAKE THIS ROAD IT SHOW THAT WE NEED TO WORK MORE ON OURSELVES AND SHOULD START WITH US IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE ALL FORM OF ABUSE IN OUT BEAUTIFUL JEWEL OF OURS.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE, SMOKEY JOE MUST BE SMILING FROM HEAVEN!!!!!

  23. Babaero says:

like one guy said we all know who the criminals are they live in our houses yet we encourage them feed and them and give them a place to sleep . so why cry now if we are not going to do anything about it. Police can lock them up lawyers can defend them prosecutor can prosecute them but if the witness don’t show up what do you expect to happen. It’s sad what happen in cayo but it’s happening all over the country and until all belizeans decide to step up and do the right thing whether its their child, brother or some family memebr and stop supporting them the crime will continue .

  24. verymad says:

Lets all protest COUNTRY WIDE. These @&& dont know and will never feel what the family of the victims are suffering now. We need to UNITE. The country of Belize dont matter what colour you have we are one and together we stand.

  25. Albert says:

The PM, Patrick faber and John should have been there but l guess this wasn’t a cutting of ribbon, where the whole cabinet would have been there smiling now they force sedi who is like a potlicker

  26. Loretta says:

Our country is in its country state because of the ignorance that is displayed in the above commentaries! You people feel as though the relationship between the citizens and the government is that of retribution as of in slavery. The government doesn’t owe any of you anything, as in the sense as to do what u want them to do because you say so. You all are like some “bad pickney weh need fi learn wen fi shut up and listen!” When you have people acting out because their emotions are running high, then you see a room full of a$$es (as like at the town hall meeting).

The problem is the village stop raising the kids and the kids are raising themselves. So now when they start turning to a life of crime and become a nuisance to the community then every Tom, Dick, & Harry got something to say about the problems. If there was proper rearing at home, there wouldn’t be such a high crime rate. The major contributor the crime rate in our country is the disintegration of the family structure. Another problem is that the country is filled with a bunch of cowards who live in the code of silence and then expect the government to run to their aide.

Sedi is the Minister of Foreign Affairs & the Attorney General, the Chief of Police. Maybe you all need to research what his job duties entails before you talk about his KSAs. And for those who don’t know, that means Knowledge, Skills and Abilities!!! You all attack his education and I bet half of you don’t even have an AA or BA to scratch your a$$es with at the least. Somebody asked how he got his job? Well, one would think it’s because he has a law degree and is a damn good lawyer, as well as he is very knowledgeable on foreign policy and trade issues. Plus don’t forget the CITIZENS VOTED FOR HIM!!! Why is it that the Cayo representatives are not stepping up and coming to your aid or providing you all with the safety net that you all are looking for? But as usual, you ignorant people always shoot the messenger. In reference to building a forensic lab, whether the city has one or not will not deter crime. The police with the citizen’s help will work to deter crime. The only possibility for a forensic lab is that it might decrease the number of wrongful incarceration.

You people need to WISE Up and understand that the decrease in crime starts and begins at HOME! Once the community/village goes back to raising the kids and stop interrupting the police when they are doing their job, then you all will not be protesting and/or rallying for help. You all ever heard of vigilante? Get up and make things happen for yourself and your community! Here goes a proverb to think about you all “Alligator mouths will over run your Hummingbird behinds” one of these days!
