New San Roman Police Station ready for business

A new Police Sub-Station was inaugurated in the village of San Roman in the Orange Walk District on Monday. And while P.U.P. Party Chairman made it clear he did not appreciate the Minister touring and opening station houses, it probably did not make John Saldivar any less satisfied to officially open the building which cost two hundred and eighty-five thousand dollars to construct. The top floor is living quarters for the Officer in Charge and his family, while the ground floor houses a public area, offices, a cafeteria, dorms for Police officers, and a cell block.  On hand at the ceremony with Saldivar was the Minister of Natural Resources Gaspar Vega.

“Definitely fits into our plans in terms of improving the services; in terms of providing better facilities for our police officers; in terms of providing a more permanent presence in the village and in the surrounding areas of San Roman. So it really fits into our plans to increase policing countrywide. And so we are very happy that we’ve been able to complete this building. This building contains facilities for the Officer in Charge and his family to live upstairs. It also has barrack space downstairs for additional officers who may have to spend the overnight or spend some time at the police station. It has a cafeteria, it has two holding cells, it has office space. So we feel very good about the design and we feel very good that we were able to do it within budget which is two hundred and eighty-five thousand dollars—a modest amount to pay for such a magnificent building.”

“It is so satisfying to be able to celebrate the inauguration of such police station in San Roman—not only because it beautifies the village. First of all, it is so warm to as you get into the village, you see such a nice building, but more than ever, with the increasing criminal activities in our entire country, it brings a sort of peace in this country; security. It was more than five, six years I believe that we have not had a police station in San Roman and that was one of my most urgent promises that I had done to the people here and today it makes me feel good that I can accomplish one of my promises to them. Of course we need cooperation both from the Officer in Charge of this Station in San roman and the people of this entire village. I don’t see that as a big challenge though because we are lucky to be able to have a corporal by the name of Severo Vasquez who is a native of this village and he is the one who will be posted here. So I believe that the cooperation will be one that will be achieved easily.”

Why not renovate the one on Queen St. instead? More important for the city or even up west. Nuh really see the need for such grandoise there. Good gesture but hope its not to stash the drugs when the plane land.

A police station will serve its purpose only if those in it serve their purpose

Yes belizean I will be happy the day you and suga and imbasils like the two of you are in jail along with your corrupt pm and gov. It’s pitiful people like the two of you that have this country in the state it’s in for voting in the worse pm and gov. In the history of this great nation how does it feel being part of thousands of men women and children murdered I hope you feel something about being the cause of all those dead people your pm sure doesn’t go tell the parents of all the the murdered people how good your pm is two damm simpletons .

@Aphro, there’s more money to spread around building a new station instead of fixing up the old one. Let this one run down, too, and in a few years they can build another one. It’s only taxpayers and their children who must bear the burden. I’d love to see some sharp reporter go through all of the invoices and expenditures for the new station, and see who profited. I’ll be shocked if it was a straight deal.
