Proudly representing Miss Garifuna Belize
November is the traditional culture month and a proud time of year for the Garifuna. Paul Nabor, Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective are all national treasures and their music will be resonating throughout the country this month. This weekend, the Miss Garifuna Belize pageant takes place at the Bliss auditorium in Belize City. Six contestants are vying for the title at the cultural event which starts at six p.m. on Saturday. This afternoon the contestants stopped by News Five with the help of drummers, to encourage people to come out and support the event.

Tickets are now on sale for Saturday’s pageant.

Good luck to all the entrants. Positive activities like these are what the Jewel needs to see more.
What is pride in culture? What is needed is pride in our community and not being lazy…19th is upon us and people from all over will converge on Dangriga, Hopkins and elsewhere in the Stann Creek District. And, all everyone will see is a filty place–bushy and dirty yards. These people refuse to pay their property taxes in Griga and Town Council in Griga is unwilling or unable to let people know that it’s not the government’s responsibility to keep their yards inside and out clean. I see no culture and no pride.
@Icare let me be the first to tell you that you are an @$$hole. Stay the !……% outta Griga. Say your true name and stop hide JERK!
19th is a time of celebrating, loving remembering who we are as Belizeans, fighting and negative will not make us whole. Around the world Belizeans are known for being friendly, these days Belizeans are more quick to attack each other. Its disappointing to know that the place I love the most is falling apart, because, everyone is frustrated, I pray that one day we will be a unit once again…..Belizean strong…. the way I knew it a s a child.
fureal, shooting the messenger doesn’t change the facts. I would call you a moron, but your response speaks for itself. Go and do something more constructive such as making Dangriga more beautiful and teaching the people about work ethics so that we are able to attrack business to the town. What have you done to improve the community? If you are sooo proud of the culture capital, prove it. I belong here and don’t plan to leave. Maybe that is what you need to do, leave.
