A woman is critically injured after being shot inside her bathroom

On Thursday night, there was no reported gun violence in the Lake Independence area of Belize City, a declared Crime Ridden area, but in the heart of the City a young woman and a man were injured in separate shootings. The twenty-two year old woman is hospitalized in critical condition after she was shot inside her bathroom at her Albert Street house. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Twenty-two year old Chloe Thompson was shot inside her home on Thursday night when a group of men reportedly scaled the fence at the rear of the property.  It is unclear who they were after.  What is known is that a spray of gunfire rang out in the backyard, leaving pockmarks on the outer wall of the residence.  Inside the lower flat of the two-storey building was Chloe Thompson.

“On Thursday, November fifteenth, at approximately 9:30 in the evening, police visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they saw twenty-two year old Chloe Thompson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the lower back.  Initial investigations revealed that Chloe Thompson was standing inside her bathroom, at the same address, when she heard several shots and thereafter feeling a burning sensation to her lower back.  It was then that she realized that she had been shot.”

According to Thompson’s father, who spoke with News Five off record, he is still uncertain about the cause of the shooting.  His daughter, who remains in critical condition at the K.H.M.H., underwent surgery for the removal of the nine millimeter slug.

“Police have recovered six expended nine millimeter casing from the area and are looking for four men for questioning.  At this time Chloe is admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a stable condition.”

“So this was not a case where these men entered the premises, they may have discharged their firearm in the vicinity and she may have just been a victim, seeing as though the round penetrated her premises?”

“That is correct.”

“Is there anything else with regards to this particular incident that can be divulged at this point?”

“Well, as we usually say, we want people to come up.  We want to really put an end to this gun violence in the city and we would like for people who perhaps have seen or heard anything, seen somebody running away from with a weapon or, you know, call 911 or 0-800-922 TIPS.”

The former Gwen Lizarraga high school graduate remains hospitalized but her family says she is doing better after surgery. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
