Breaking News: Jury actually finds man guilty of murder
Also in court, just before one o’clock this afternoon, a jury of seven women and five men stepped into the deliberating room to decide the fate of Gregory August, a Construction Worker of the Mile eight community known as Western Paradise. August is accused of the murder of seventy-three year old Alvin Alpheus Robinson, who was senselessly and gruesomely murdered on the night of May twenty-third, 2009. The elderly resident lived in a family yard with relatives but was confined to a pimento house. Robinson was fatally stabbed multiple times to the neck and face. The crown’s allegations are that the act was committed just shortly after August had a confrontation with the deceased’s grandson and according to three of his grandchildren, August threatened that he would return. There was no eyewitness to the murder but there was circumstantial evidence from Terry Garbutt, a friend of the accused and a resident of the Mile Eight Community that on the night of the murder he recognized August leaving the yard. Other circumstantial evidence that the prosecution relied heavily on was that of a tennis footprint allegedly found at the murder scene, which they claim belonged to August. After two weeks of trial, this afternoon, the jury found August guilty of murder and he will sentenced on Monday. Justice Adolph Lucas was the presiding judge and the crown counsel was Stevannie Duncan. Gregory August has been on remand for three years and was represented by Attorney Lionel Welch.
I recall this cruel murder. He’s convicted, he should hang. I’ll donate the rope.
I was so excited about a conviction in a heinous case, I forgot to add kudos to the prosecutor and police, and thanks to a citizen jury that used commonsense. Our coyuntry needs more of all of these ingredients for success!
Senseless cowardly act indeed!
He did the crime therefore he will do the time!
This is exactly what we need in our country!
He should be hung hang him high.
Finally our police was able to preserve and secure evidence that led to a conviction. Keep up the good work,do not let this be a one time occurence. It is time to show the criminals that the law enforcement will do whatever is necessary to convict them. I also applaud the jury for being for doing the right thing and not be imtimated. Do it again.
“Actually”??? Hmmm. don’t comment so fast, remember he will appeal.
I do not know how the people of Belize has become to be so illiterate for ex: how they came up with circumstantial, allegedly and they claim, coated in the sentence list above “Other circumstantial evidence that the prosecution relied heavily on was that of a tennis footprint allegedly found at the murder scene, which they claim belonged to August.” I know to convict someone they should be witnesses placing Mr. August AT the present time of the murder and there should be strong evidence not circumstantial also the argument of the defendant attorney should have fought against the shoe print which was circumstantial, because every body knows when a new style of shoe is in style everyone who can afford it will purchase one. My opinion is this is retaliation what Belize is know for. Mr. August is an innocent man.
all these ppl talking a bunch of bull like they were there in the court their was absolutely no evidence there to convict anyone but like wat they say the guilty walk and the innocent go to jail how a shoe print could send someone to jail REALLY we don’t even have the technology here in belize to determine if it was the same shoe print which almost everyone have one of those footwear the judge highlighted to the jury most of the witness testimony were so inconsistent in each of their story the main witness was not even shore if it was the acussed he saw the witness said he saw two person walk tru his yard which is about a half mile away from the crime scene not even one of the witness place him on the crime scene not one the main witness didnt saw a face he said it was too dark to see a face but he (think) it was the acussed because of his hands WOW that’s the circumstantial evidence that send someone to jail for life and the forensic themselves said the mole of the tennis shoe was not even mixed well so it didn’t take up the shoe print well
Thank you AK and Lawyer b atleast people with sense still exist that man is innnocent the media is putting the story like the witness saw him leaving the crime scene an no one actually did not even the main witness because of an earlier altercation with the son of the deceased and saying i wa come bak that doesn’t means u came back an no one saw him came back so basically he was charged and convicted because of saying he will come back if thats the case half of belize belongs in jail for that phrase justice was not served to the rite person even the deceased family know’s that and i know why i said that an they know why
