Guatemalan caught smuggling Salvadoran into Belize

Rolando Velasquez Darbon

Jose Hernandez Ayala

Forty-eight year-old Rolando Velasquez Darbon pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting when he appeared before Magistrate Adolph Lucas Jr. in court today. He was busted on Wednesday slipping a Salvadoran national into the country.  Darbon, who is wanted by the United States Embassy for his involvement in an alleged human trafficking ring, was fined three thousand dollars when he was caught smuggling Jose Evelio Ayala into Belize.  Darbon was ordered to pay the fine immediately or face three years in prison.  A removal order was additionally granted by the court for him to be expelled from the country.  But, before those actions can be taken a thorough investigation involving officials from U.S. Embassy has to be conducted.  During a sting operation on Wednesday, four more persons, including Daisy Maria Orosco, proprietor of Karina’s Bar in Ladyville, were detained; however, only three of them were brought before the court today.

I really, really hate illegal immigration and the harm it does to the Jewel — what was this man running from? For our safety, we need to know who is coming in before they enter.

Let’s find the quickest way to get the trafficker into prison — my bet that will be sending him to Uncle Sam.

And with so many legitimate Belizeans short of work and hurting financially, enforcing our immigration laws is an economic imperative, too. Let’s keep jailing people who hire illegals, and close their businesses, too. When it’s too hard to come and live here, they’ll go somewhere else.

I think there needs to be a clarification as to whether this case is human trafficking or Human smuggling. They are both offences, but with the human traffcking the persons being moved are victims. In human smuggling the persons pay to be taken across borders. If this was a human trafficking the the identify and picture of the victim should not have been published.
Just my little two cents that my Channel 5 can clear this up for us.

Crack down on dem hard. This happens all the time especially in southern Belize.
