Flu spreads at murder trial?

Twenty-one year-old Leon Linsford Gomez, accused of stabbing Salvador Martinez to death in 2010, had his day in court on Monday, but the murder trial was discontinued at the last minute.  Gomez, who allegedly inflicted multiple stabs wounds on Martinez during a high school football game at the M.C.C. Grounds, appeared before Justice Adolph Lucas where prosecutor Sheneiza Smith encountered a few problems during the trial.  Her witnesses, including a Justice of the Peace as well as a Scenes of Crime technician, failed to appear in court due to illness.  In the interest of justice, the twelve-member jury was discharged from the case, which is currently in a voir dire.  As a result of the decision, Gomez has been further remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January twenty-third, 2013, during which a new trial date will be set.  Leon Linsford Gomez is the brother of Leon Gomez, the man whom police accuse of being a serial rapist.
