Sympathy for Honduran national in Court

Thirty-two year old Gloria Yadira Lambert Marcelino, a Honduran national who has been living in Belize since 2001, appeared in court today where she was arraigned for the offense of Failure to Comply with a Visitor’s Permit.  Allegations are that Marcelino entered the country on July tenth, 2001 via the Blue Creek Port as a visitor and never left.  Immigration officials caught up with her on Monday where they arrested and charged her for the offense.  Marcelino, represented by attorneys, Christelle Wilson and Said Musa, appeared before Magistrate Adolph Lucas Jr. where her legal counsels questioned the Immigration Department’s request for a removal order.  The department initially objected to bail under the belief that Marcelino, who is involved in a common-law relationship and is currently her mother-in-law’s caretaker, would pose a flight risk.  Upon learning of her situation at home, immigration officials withdrew their objections and bail was subsequently granted in the sum of five thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount.  Her case will resume on January twenty-ninth, 2013.

I really don’t have sympathy for illegal entrants when they are finally caught — they should be deported without fuss. all of the inconvenience is a result of their own behavior, not the GOB’s and certainly not the people of the Jewel.

for all you know she may be more belizean than those born belizean. Let show the word that Belize has a heart, that we care and love our neighbors. To all Belizean, That jewel is a small replica of the USA. central Americans come there for a better life and promise of brighter tomorrow. but i will say this, Asians use Belize for all the wrong reasons and this the US DHS know.

@ sam, rod, agree. I think Belize is be unfair. Give her a chance. Belize’s have a lot on their hands that to be messging with illegal aliens. Harass the thugs.

  7. Storm says:

@Ixora, you have a fair comment, but let me defend my view.

    1. A just society means that we are all equal before the law, they will all be enforced fairly. WHEN THEY ARE NOT — who is to decide who gets one treatment and who gets different treatment? That person quickly becomes a rich dictator. So if the law is broken, I want it enforced, no matter if the offender is black, brown, white, yellow, or green.

    2. I agree that many illegal immigrants are law-abiding (except for the illegal entry) and make some contribution to the Jewel, or at least don’t destroy it. But we’re a small country that can easily be overwhelmed by unrestricted, unregulated immigration. right now we lack enough jobs for natural born citizens, let alone illegal immigrants. Immigration policy should be wisely designed to serve the needs of the nation — let in people with needed skills, education, clear police records, and who will never become a financial burden on the nation. I don’t know whether this person would have met those criteria, but she should have been required to do so BEFORE entry.

If I enter any of our neighboring countries illegally, I would expect to be roughly treated, jailed, and then deported. SO I DON’T DO IT!

Am I wrong in any way?
