P.U.P.’s Dolores says Manuel has no business in police affairs

Dolores Balderamos Garcia

The P.U.P. is also speaking out against the transfer of Police Corporal Sharmane Young from San Pedro. Deputy Party Leader, Dolores Balderamos Garcia says, that as the Area Representative, Manuel Heredia has no business in the affairs of the Police Department, especially when it comes to the transfer of an officer. The party’s view is that proper procedure was not followed in Young’s case.

Dolores Balderamos Garcia, Deputy Leader, People’s United Party

“The People’s United Party is very concerned and we deplore and we decry the political interference in the transfer f a police officer from San Pedro; an arbitrary and immediate transfer I might say. What we need to concentrate on in this is that this lady is a mother no doubt, she has a family, she has responsibilities and commitments and for a minister of government to be able to just lift his finger and say this person must be transferred because we don’t like her around; that is something that we cannot tolerate in this community. We have to respect our public officers. And we are highlighting this issue because we are actually in the Sixteen Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence and we believe that it is a form of abuse and we believe that it is corruption for a minister of government to just pick up and say transfer this person and to turn around and say he has no apology. We are decrying that and deploring that and we are saying that there is a proper procedure that should be followed and we did not see that happening here and there and it was actually admitted by the minister himself. We are saying that is not correct and as a party, we speak out on it.  The political directorate and politicians should not be interfering in a high handed way in the work of the police and in what should be the work of the Public Service Commission in relation to transfers.”

Mertz pleaded guilty was fined one thousand three hundred three hundred and fifty dollars for charges including Assaulting a Uniformed Police Officer.

It is very obvious that the minister had step out of bounds in this case. Minister Heredia is a good man and he means well for his community. There is a bigger problem here that is not being put in the lime light. He is not a corrupt minister and that is for sure! The problem is that the entire community has lost their respect and trust in the entire police department in San Pedro. Talk about corruption…this has become the Mecca of corruption in our Nation. It starts from the top and trickles down all the way to the lowest officers. They are abusive, extremely disrespectful to citizens except for those who grease their hands. The drug peddlers and the police officers are friends. They are as thick as thieves. Mr. Heredia has gotten so much complaints after complaints about their abusive behavior. A few months ago, I was at a point that I had to call upon Mr. Heredia to assist in an injustice by the police against my business and personal life. I had to threatened the police to go to the media and this was the only way the situation was resolved.
Mr. Heredia acted out of frustration and had no intention of hiding his action. I agree that he should have gone through the proper channels in getting her replaced. What are the PUP talking about? When they were in power, they were the untouchables. Name me one minister that has never used his power to persuade the Police department and to get friends and family out of jail.

We need to call fo for his resignation from office and seek a bi-election. The populace of Belize must show the GOB that they are sick and tired of the apparent lawlessness demonstrated by this incompetent minister.
