Vega on the Campaign trail to remain as Deputy Party Leader of U.D.P.

Gaspar Vega

One person who has witnessed a lot of support in recent days is Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega. Vega is also deputy leader of the United Democratic Party (U.D.P.) and is being challenged by Education Minister Patrick Faber for the second highest post in the party. News Five had previously spoken to Faber who says his campaign is gaining momentum. Now Vega indicated to News Five that his support comes from the highest members of the party.

Gaspar Vega, Deputy Party Leader, U.D.P.

“Campaign’s been going very good. I think it has been very peaceful. I think both candidates have their own style of campaigning. I have mine and I think mine has been showing a lot of productivity. I am very satisfied. I am encouraged by the support I am getting from my colleagues; especially my supporters in my division. I am pretty satisfied with that.”

Jose Sanchez

“You are seen as the man from the north. Whose support do you carry in Belize City? I know there have been some complaints made over the radio about supporters of yours.”

Gaspar Vega

“I think I have a lot of support in the north, in the south, in the west and even the Belize District. At this time that is what I would like to say. I feel confident that I have support in all the different regions of the country.”

Jose Sanchez

“Let me ask. Do you have the support of Honorable Boots Martinez?”

Anthony “Boots” Martinez

“Yes, Yes.”

Jose Sanchez

“You have the support of Boots. It has been noted that former leaders of the party are supporting Mister Faber. However, we haven’t heard anything from the Prime Minister. Do you have the support of the Prime Minister?”

Gaspar Vega

“I think I have—I am certain I have the support of the Prime Minister. He is here and that would be better if he would answer that question.”

The convention will take place in February 2013.

  1. Buju says:

Beneath all the lights and glamour Hon. Gaspar Vega is a very nice, approachable and helpful man.

He is the right man for the job if i was a delegate in the udp he would definately have my vote!

Faber tends to take everything personal and behave like a girl….

I also believe this spells trouble for the udp because if Gaspar wins Faber will be like a spoilt child and if Faber wins well the udp is in trouble in the rest of the country.

    Just my 2 cents….

  2. melinda bejerano says:

I think Buju above hit it directly on the head, that is the whole truth about this thing. Am a udp, but if Faber wins then am out of there. He will bring disunity and divisiveness to the party. best mek him lose and shut up.

  3. Bear says:

I just don’t know whether the Jewel can afford to have Gapi turning the nation into his pinata, giving public lands to his family and friends. He may be pleasant, but he’s proud to be dishonest.

Can’t the UDP do MUCH better than either of these very flawed contenders?

  4. Rough says:

Vega has never been helpful.. The UDP took away our land and we were never compensated even though he promised to do so… Pura boca..

  5. kenneth says:
