Pauly goes to court for frying without a license

Paul Ferguson

In just over a week, Paul Ferguson has been charged for insulting a Special Constable, relocated from his usual spot in front of Femina Store on Albert Street to the Battlefield Park and then ordered to stop selling his fried chicken since he doesn’t have trade license. Well, today Paul Ferguson’s battle with the Belize City Council continued as he appeared in court on two charges for vending on the sidewalk without a trade license.  Ferguson says he plans to fight the charges because he feels that he is being unfairly targeted.

Paul Ferguson, Charged for Vending without Trade License

“I gone dah court this morning and they adjourned the court until January thirty-first.”

Delahnie Bain

“What was the purpose of the hearing?”

Paul Ferguson

“For the two charges that I received on the eighteenth of December for selling food, fried chicken, on the side walk. I went to court for the insulting words and I pleaded guilty for that charge but they’re taking me to court now for selling fried chicken on the sidewalk without at—they say a valid trade license, which in you don’t need a trade license to sell on the sidewalk.”

Delahnie Bain

“So you’re going to go ahead and fight those charges?”

Paul Ferguson

“Oh yes, of course. Like I said, this is just the beginning. We’re gonna fight to the bitter end. I’m not gonna let them just stop me from selling fried chicken because if they’re gonna stop me, they should stop everyone on the sidewalk. The law doesn’t apply to one, the law applies across the board to everybody. They said I need a trade license. I just went to the City Council and I’m applying for a peddler’s licenses. But we’re gonna see if they’ll give the peddler’s license, which I think it’s gonna be a little problem with the City Council right now but we’re not gonna give up. We’re gonna fight. My chicken is good so I can’t complain.”

Delahnie Bain

“So in the meantime, have you stopped selling for now?”

Paul Ferguson

“No, I’m still selling fried chicken on Albert Street. I will continue to sell fried chicken on Albert Street until they lock me up. I’m not gonna stop. This is how I can pay people that I owe and pay my bills. It’s the only thing I can do, I have to do it.”

Delahnie Bain

“But will you personally be out there because you were mentioning that the stop order is for Paul Ferguson.”

Paul Ferguson

“Well, I’m not gonna say that me personally gonna sell fried chicken on Albert Street. Maybe my sister will sell and if my sister can’t sell then I will go out and sell. I’m gonna stand up for what I believe in so I’m not gonna give up. But money have to mek so if unnu want unnu fried chicken, come pan Albert Street and get unnu best fried chicken.”

Really you would rather this hard working man out and and rob someone instead of making his own money, really. I have an idea then let’s all go and rob the rich start from the top gov. Since working hard and being a good person is a bad thing to do.

(Bob Marley) said: Life is Your Right.
So keep on fighting for your right as a man to live and support yourselves
and family. Down with these crooked parasitic politicians and their evil policies).
They are the ones not making an honest living. They are the ones depriving the people
of their Natural God giving Human Rights. They are the ones living on the backs of the
poor robbing the country. Power to you my brother

  5. coral Black says:

Why uuh deh fight the man, when he is just trying to make an honest living.
I would think that the government have bigger issue to deal with, than to
go after a man who is working for his, and not robbing killing.

  6. ceo says:

Yeh yeh yeh we all know that the government needs to do way better then it is doing but is it too much to go get the license needed?

Hot oil in the middle of a busy area is a danger. Get the license and save the headache!

So because they did not shut you down from day one I guess this makes what nyou are doing right? Belizeans know how to follow the law (for the most part) because when they are in America they follow the law and get the necessary license to conduct business.

  7. fry chicken chic says:
